Hi again everyone…most of you know the deal here..I’ll attatch a flier now, and a registration form soon..

the quick summary is..we are holding the 9th annual Pooh Bear Open walleye tournament on Sat June 2nd at Bay Point Park in Red Wing..this is a very casual tournament and raises monies for local charities..usually the Red Wing wildlife protective league, or amatuer hockey assoc–..and this year we are looking to include pheasants forever also. The fishermen receive cash and trophies..amounts depend on money raised..and usually is around $800 for first place..Typically we get around 85 boats..there is a HUGE raffle that follows at the Elks club..and a great dinner..the dinner is included in the $30 entry fee..friends and family may also attend the raffle/dinner..it’s a great event..with a ton of great people..As always we are looking for volunteers..and if you are looking for a tax write off, and have an angle on a prize let me know..I have the tax forms for you!!Although it is a casual tournament..the quality of the competition is tough..a big stinger is usually needed!! come “knock off” the current champions!!

If interested..e-mail me or call Scott at 952-210-3803..messages posted here may not be immediately returned..but someone from the site that knows the deal..feel free to help out!!

This is a really fun Tournament and great for people looking to give tourneys a try. The people are all nice, the food is great and there are some really amazing prizes in the raffle! Add that to the fact that you are helping a good charity and what more could you ask for!

Hey guys…Back when this tournament was started, people on this site were VERY helpful in how to create it, and basically helped make it a very successful tournament…I am asking an opinion..and would appreciate honest answers..i have always been a “get it out there” kinda guy..I am taking some private messages and e-mails..regarding our current champions..last year when they won, it was the 3rd year in a row they won..apparently there are some that feel this success can only come from cheating..here’s my problem..without proof of ANY kind..how can someone be judged and called a cheater?? I would welcome any and all open discussion on the matter..that is..whatever belief you have on this or related matters go ahead, let’s ‘get it out there” you will not offend me..My focus..has ALWAYS been to help create a casual, fun, relaxing tournament..yet has a quality level of competition…So,feel free to post messages or your opinions..or tell me in a private message..whatever. Thanks, scott

By the way, most of you who fished the tournament last year should be receiving your registration form and rules soon..please note the boundaries ahead of time when pre-fishing…if you need a registration form, e-mail me..or they are now at the Red Wing area bait shops…Thanks..Scott

In my opinion, it is not cheating without proof. Therefore, if people have a problem with the same winner the past 3 years, they need to come up with proof or go out and outfish them. I would always hope that people are honest in a tournament situation, but I am also not stupid enough to think everyone is. Without proof however, you have to just assume everyone fishes fairly.

Truth to the fact is that there are a handfull of P4 fisherman who are deadly sticks. They are the guys that come in with about 10-15lbs more than the average guy.

Without proof, it just doesn’t hold water. Especially if there are no allegations. Pretty tought to call out cheaters just because they won 3 years in a row. Now, if the persons calling these winners out on the floor for cheating has some type of reasoning to make their claim, then a person can investigate it.

Thanks for the thoughts..My opinion has always been..to the few guys that have asked if they are cheating, I say..give me a reason to think that they are…and we will explore..as yet, the only thing we have heard is that one of them works for the DNR and has access to illegal sonar, and or shocking equipment..which is quite frankly not true..he works for the City of Rochester, and is responsible for the streets…I hate to see guys get a reputation when they have done nothing to earn it..so, I hope it is just a few people making noise..I also want to encourage them to fish the tournament again rather than get frustrated at some peoples accusations…again, I appreciate all thoughts and opinions..and just hope the Pooh Bear remains such a successful, challenging local event..that EVERYONE has a great time with!!!

I think do away with the prize money and get bigger trophies!! Then watch Labsrule actually take this tourney seriously! Heck he may even fish P4 prior to the tourney if that was the case! Or how about trophies 1st-85th then everyone can bring home something other than a sunburn!! 8 years me and the big red one from tornado alley have fished this tourney and have had nothing but memorable moments from late starts, to top 5 finishes, to 25lbs catfish and getting skunked. But if it werent for the tradition of the tourney It would be one less day I would get to fish with my favorite fishing partner. I think thats what this tourneys about haveing fun with the people we enjoy. It sounds a bit sappy but thats what it is for me. Sure, Id like to finish first and out fish all those big rigs. Weve come close a couple of times and from that we’ve got some good stories!! Thats what I like not the money! No one ever remembers the money, they remember the fish and the stories that go along with them. I could care less if someone is cheating! Im still going to pay my entry fee, show up late, have a great breakfast wrap on the water, wish I had sunblock (or an exta layer!),talk about where we caught fish (or what we caught and where we caught them) and leave full from the Elks Club! Thats what fun for me! if we weigh in its a bonus!

Just dropped our form in the mail today so Team Redneck will be there trying to better our second place finish from last year. A guy can dream can’t he! It felt like Pooh Bear weather last Sunday during the LPO—-hope we don’t get LPO weather for Pooh Bear.

I just want to add my 2 cents on the cheating thing.. I have fished with One of the guys on the winning team a few times, and I KNOW they are not cheating!!! They are just two Very Good Sticks!! I learned a ton from him!! There is nothing to worry about…
And congrats again 4 years in a row!!

Thanks Brian. Definitely congratulations to the winning team!!! All I can say is it might not been four in a row if one hadn’t come unbuttoned for us in the morning. It was a big enough fish that with our others we would have given them a run for it. As it was we had kind of an off day and ended in second so I am very happy. The sad part was our livewell pump quit and all our fish died. Kind of put a dampener on a good day(that and a drenching rain). When I pulled the pump apart today it had a chunk of weed jammed in it and the propeller had spun on the shaft. I had a spare pump and swapped props and it is going again but too late for a couple of very nice walleye.
I would like to say thank you to the people who put this tournament together. It is well run, the people are very friendly and the meal alone is worth the entry fee.

This is the second post that mentioned cheating. What is that all about??????

I am guessing there was a little jealousy brewing amongst the good ol’ boys at the weigh in. It always seems easier to believe someone cheated than to believe they might actually be good.
