Spring Valley’s Barto Landing to Host

    Youth & Family Fishing Clinic

Minnetonka, MN — In its second year, National Professional Anglers Association (NPAA) and the Cabela’s Masters Walleye Circuit (MWC) have teamed up to host Youth and Family Fishing Clinics in conjunction with all nine MWC tournaments in 2007. First up for the year is Spring Valley, Illinois, on Saturday March 24th, immediately following day one’s weigh-in. The first flight of boats is due in at 2 o’clock and the second flight due in a 3 o’clock. As soon as all the teams have weighed their fish the clinic will begin – approximately 3:45 p.m.

Frank Pilney, NPAA #920, is leading the effort on behalf of the anglers, with fellow NPAA anglers helping with the kids onsite. Cabela’s MWC sponsors have pooled resources and made it possible for each child attending the clinic to walk away with their own tackle box and basic terminal tackle for slip-float fishing. Up to 50 kids will be able to take home their very own new rod and reel after attending the clinic. The rods, reels and tackle boxes were donated by Lowrance Electronics, Cabela’s and the North American Fishing Club.

“I fell in love with fishing while dreaming over a bobber as a kid,” shared Pilney. “This is a great way for professional anglers to share our skills with the next generation.” Scout Troops or other clubs are encouraged to attend as a group. Parents are encouraged to attend the clinic with their children and learn about the equipment and basics together.

A new bike, donated by MWC sponsor Toyota Trucks has been rigged with rod holders for carrying fishing poles and storage for tackle. It will be given away as a prize to one of the lucky students in attendance.

Michael Meyer, NPAA #67, helped to rig the bike with the rod holders and custom gear. “This is a special contribution to the community for me. I didn’t have parents or grandparents that taught me to fish, but did have my two friends and my bike, and we taught ourselves by riding our bikes to the river. I want to share that chance with another lucky kid.”

Cabela’s is the title sponsor for the Masters Walleye Circuit. Official Sponsors are Ranger Boats, Mercury Motors, MotorGuide, Lowrance Electronics, Toyota Trucks, North American Fishing Club and Versus (Vs.). Associate sponsors are Tommy Docks, The Inhibitor, Food Source Lures, Ice Armor and Farm & City Insurance Services.
