What a bummer! Polar Kraft has disbanded it’s Pro Staff and is pulling out of the FLW Tour and League.

It is good to see G3 investing in the grass roots level of tournament fishing! I think if a boat company wants to be successful, that is where the effort needs to be.

I am not slamming PK in any way, but how much have you heard about them? They had a number of guys on staff that are good sticks, but you heard nothing of their boats. And they are nice boats.

Look for G3 to step up their promotion and visibility of their lines in the near future.

That’s a bummer. I took a self-guided tour around a PK boat in the parking lot of one of our league events last year. Looked like a solid river boat that could handle some big water too. With this change, I guess that will be my last trip around a PK as well.

There will be more to come on this. The Pro Staff guys just found out last week. I am sure in the next few days we will know more. One of the guys I work with was on their staff

Oh Lord, I’m glad I figure out PK was PolarKraft, for a moment my mind went to Parsons/Kavajecz

I have the letter that Jack Faust (Former Pro Staff Director) sent to the staff. It said that they decided to end the FLW affiliation, and therefore there was no need for a Pro Staff, or his services.

Yes, I will be running a G3 in the FLW Tour and League, as well as the MTT’s and the Wave Wacker.

Apparently Godfrey Marine which owned PolarKraft as well as a number of different marine brands (mostly pontoon boats) decided to sell out to an investment group, who’s main interest in the bottom line. Apparently they felt that the investment needed to field a pro staff and their share of the sponsorship of the FLW did not warrant the return they would recieve from increased walleye boat sales. Think of it from their point of view….if we invest 100K in pro-staff and sponsorship of the FLW…AND… we can only show realistically a 5K return on each WALLEYE boat we sell, how many walleye boats do we have to sell to justify the investment? The answer….a lot more than they were selling. They are good boats, but the investment to promote the boats to that small market segment did not justify their investment.

    Um…100k divided by 5k = 20 boats.

Seems like a pretty good investment to me if they only had to sell 20 boats to make up their initial investment!

They sold 21 I have not ridden in the boat, they appear to have lots of storage and comfort, but look like a sherman tank. For the $35k plus your going to spend on that boat I’d rather put my money towards something that is proven (Lund/Ranger/Cliner/Alumacraft). My .,02

I myself have not been in either boat but what I have heard from the guys who have ran both boats and fished tourneys against both boats. have been good and bad well actually I have not heard anything good about the G3 line all I have heard is that they have been having a ton of problems splitting hauls and components on the inside are not very well built. on the other hand I have heard nothing but good about the Polar Kraft I have heard several good Reports about the ride and the durability of these boats the only complaint was about the layout on the inside but when you are comparing these boats to the Lunds or Alumacraft I think they have a long way to go but they seem to be off to a good start.

but either way I really think this is going to hurt Polar Kraft on there sales it will be interesting to see what happends and what the FLW does this next season.

The 185 Angler G3 I fished from on Mille Lacs was a nice rig in my opinion… although I will say up front that 4 nights of fishing isn’t enough time to form a complete picture. I actually enjoyed fishing from it quite a bit and of course the Yamahas were exceptional. A full year of guiding would be a nice test to throw out one of these rigs.

Nate, I find these statement suprising from someone such as yourself. To make a statement such as this with no personal experience is flat out mind boggling. To say that “You heard G3 is having a ton of problems with hulls splitting” with no first hand knowledge, or name of your source is irresponsible at best. Yes, G3 had some issues with boats in a few tournaments where virtually EVERY make of boat experienced catostrophic failure of components. To single out one boat alone is not right. How many Rangers had windshields taped together? How many more had their windshields fall in peoples laps? How many motors were broken off mounts and transoms of other boat makes? Many.

Yes, I ran G3 last year. I did have a few issues with my boat, and G3 personally addressed them. They actually sent 3 engineers to Mille Lacs this Fall to go over concerns and advice from three different IDA members for input into future improvements into their V boat line. (Is Lund, Crestliner or Polar Kraft or Alumacraft doing that?) G3 is a young boat company, and are doing a tremendous job competing in an arena that was formerly OWNED by Crestliner and Lund. In a day and age where consolodations and reductions are the name of the game, G3 has built on to their factory, and is supporting the FLW Tour and League to further grow the possibilities for us all to compete well into the future. You do not have to applaud them or sing their praises, just understand what they are doing and where they are going. They have a fantastic line of boats right now with storage and layout, performance, fit and finish rivaling the best out there in the market. My boat is always available for a test drive for you or any potential customer. I think if you actually spent time in the boat, you may change your tune. You (and everyone else) will always find something about a boat you do not like. But to come out and repeat or make up things based on heresay is not responsible in my opinion.

I have read the postings on other websites too. I think what I posted above echoes what I would have posted there if I would have.

But, you have your OPINIONS. I am not going to attempt to change your mind.

Another thing you have to consider with ANY boat, a lot depends on how you drive them. You and I both know, that in the conditions that were present in the tournaments you referred to, I could have broke ANY boat model you could have given me. G3 won the FLW Tour on the Mississippi last year, and also placed very high in others. So if you want to be quick to throw out the perceived negativeness, also look at the possitive.

    Just my $.02.

I am not looking to start a peeing match about 1 boat over any other because we all have our favorites, and I am not about to start demeaning other boat manufacturers. But seeing as how the hull was brought up on the G3, it is 100% covered at no out of pocket expense to the owner. Ask your favorite boat company if they offer that for you.

I heard from Lamar Van Dam that G-3 was coming out with a new Walleye boat for next year. He said it was close to 20 foot. Has anyone else heard more about this, or any pictures?

    Hey Chris
if you would like to hear where my information came from or anything else I have to say on the matter give me a call 507-251-9660 but to come out here and say that I am making stuff up is irresponsible.
I said in my first post I have not been in either boat. also all my information has came from guys who ran the boats last year.
all I was trying to do was answere a question and give warning to the consumer.
oh Tuck and JEFF RYAN won the FLW not the boat

Hey Chris weren’t you raving up E-Techs just as loud last offseason, and then finally saw the light and jumped over to a Yamaha

Kidding aside G3’s seem like a pretty decent boat, and they’re probably hitting the market at the right time (and wrong time based on gas prices and roller coaster economy), since Lund seems determined to go through with their foolish plan to only pre-rig for Mercury motors (at least last I heard). I’ve always been a big Lund guy, but this may finally push me over to a Ranger or another aluminum boat. I still think Lund is the cream of the crop as far as aluminum boats, but forcing potential buyers to select a motor that is not the first or second choice for a lot of people just doesn’t seem wise to me. I think this whole battle between between Mercury and Yamaha motors is going to sink Lund. Putting a Mercury on the back of a fine fishing machine is akin to entering a mule in the Kentucky Derby. It’s damn near criminal. In any event, it should only help out fledgling boat companies like G3, and all of the other boat manufacturuers for that matter. I agree with Nate that the make of boat had absolutely zero to do with with the Tour vicotory at Red Wing last year, but that kind of exposure certainly doesn’t hurt a company.

Ran my new G3 185 for most of last year and was very happy with it. I drove in a few boats, lund, ranger, skeeter (the walleye boat is nice), alumacraft and tuffy( still in love with tuffy. Loved coots and Brads on Bemidgi and Cass). First and foremost was the yamaha engine, if I couldnt hang yamaha, then no dice for me. Second, the boat is perfect for me and my family. Layout is nice, speed ok, storage is good, what more can I say. It works for me and thats key.

Its important that individual preference taken into consideration. All boats serve one or more purposes. And to say one is better or worse seems a bit far fetch if there is no real on water experience.

I gotta say this though. Man, that polar kraft looked sweet. I was eyeballing that bad boy at all four flw wisco events. I loved it the first time I seen that [censored]!!!
