VERY nice Championship winners prizes. Go get em guys.
Thanks, BillOctober 19, 2006 at 11:41 am #490513It seems like most everyone wanted it to stay Pro/Am, wanted bigger pay outs, and wanted bigger prizes for the Championship. All of the things I just mentioned are now a reality. Yes 300.00 is alot of money to some but there are only 3 tournaments and there are fantastic Championship winner prizes-new expensive boats that alot of people couldn’t afford to buy on their own. Its now become more of an elite circuit with bigger payout. If you were to fish the MWC for example it would cost you 300.00 for your ”half” of the entry fee [600.00 entry fee]. It has now become a step above alot of other tournament circuits so everything most wanted they now have gotten. Enjoy and go get em.
Thanks, Billted-merdanPosts: 1036October 19, 2006 at 2:10 pm #490583Make sure you put the pencil to paper on the increase in entry fees here.
With only three events you are reducing your traveling expenses by 25% vs 4 events. The increase to fish the circuit is $250 – I don’t know if you can pre-fish for an event on that amount of $$$ – fill the truck, boat buy some bait and you have invested that amount!
The payouts look great but as always full fields guarantee these payouts – reducing each division to three events should help this.
I think it’s great that the FLW is offering walleye opportunities at multiple levels – what more could we ask for. Win your state division and get a shot at $150K or $22K – seems like great incentive to me…
Good luck with your choices.
October 19, 2006 at 9:11 pm #490784Ted, are you going to do the league and tour events again next year?
Sully
October 20, 2006 at 1:51 am #490879Ted’s info on top of what FLW is offering makes it a deal too hard to pass up if you are looking for a circuit to fish. And ”Congrats” on your accomplishments this year on the Pro Circuit Ted.
Thanks, BillOctober 20, 2006 at 2:24 am #490905Yeah…….The payouts are better, but they’re taking the “Weekend angler” they advertise it as out of it. I know without getting some sponsers to help with some of the payments there are a few of us that can’t come up with that kind of money. By the time you pay for gas, room and food, prefishing a couple day’s…….It’s up around $500 a tournament. To rich for me……….
October 20, 2006 at 2:48 am #490921Chappy – Don’t want to start a whizzing match but when I go back and look at my total costs to fish all 4 League events in 2005, including entry fees, fishing only 3 with $300 entry fees would be less. Entry fees are the smallest portion of the total bill. Gas, lodging, bait and food easily total more then the entry fee for 2 days of pre-fishing and the tournament day. I think you need to go back to your books and re-do the math because there’s no way this could be more expensive and your chance to actually break even exists now that the purse has been increased. In 2006 and 2005 you needed to win in order to have any money in your pocket after expenses.
In the bigger picture if you are doing this to make money I think you might be better off at one of the many casinos throughout this great state……..
Just my humble opinion……
My hats off to the FLW for listening to the anglers!
Good luck to everyone in ’07.
KurtOctober 20, 2006 at 3:03 am #490928You may be right…..but I did’nt make any money at all,and If I don’t place in the money somewhere along the line, the wife gives me a funny look. I agree that if your doing it to make money, your in it for the wrong reason! And the prizes are good, But they’re only paying down 20 spots??
$300 entry
$120 Gas truck
$50-60 Gas for boat
$50 food
$30-40 a night lodging…..It all adds up………I just can’t see paying that much to fish 1 day…..
ted-merdanPosts: 1036October 20, 2006 at 3:12 am #490931I certainly didn’t mean to offend anyone with my post on the pencil to paper – I do work a real job and am fortunate to get most of the time off that I need for fishing and promotions. I understand that every one must evaluate their own situations and determine the amount of investment that they or their family is comfortable with. Spending the winter eating TV dinners so you can fish a few events is not right – spend the time with your families because that’s what counts the most it the big picture.
I haven’t decided on what I am doing with the leagues next year – I am working to align my job assignemnts around the tour schedule but it’s tough to be gone 5+ weeks in a 14 week span and then if you earn your spot in the championship trying to get additional time off is almost impossible. I really enjoy fishing the leagues because I like to compete and there is tough competition there. I have made some good friends out of the league and hope to continue that. I have a few months to see what I can work out so hopefully I will be able to do a few events or maybe the full schedule…
I do believe with this new format that if a boater wanted to only enter one or two events, and they fished well you would be farther ahead with these payouts than in the past.
The great thing is they have provided an opportunity – if it works for you as an individual it great, if not that’s OK also. America is wonderful, thanks to those who help us have the freedom for choices!
October 20, 2006 at 3:44 am #490935No offense taken here……. Your right about spending time with the Family, And that’s probably the way I’m going to do.In my situation,It’s not worth the Money.
October 20, 2006 at 11:40 pm #491169The new format looks good. I no you cant have your cake and eat it too but one thing I would have like to see was an increase in the championship. Since thats where the big prizes are for 1st and 2nd you are more likely to spend a few more days out there and would be nice to increse these a little more. Again you cant have every thing I no flw is on the right track and should be a great year. I am planning on participating again this year as of rite now
October 22, 2006 at 3:06 am #491353A person, most anyway, doesn’t make any money really by fishing tournaments. It cost, with everything figured in for expense, more than most ever win. They fish it for fun, for ego, for the excitement, for being with fishing friends, and for the sport. If a person is going to fish a circuit thats great but they have to be realistic and figure that its going to cost them money. For some thats no problem. For other people like Chappy, not meaning to pick on you here Chappy because I’m in the same boat you are as not being able to afford it, its just too much money for my income. Us guys who like tournaments all figure where we fit in and we fish those tournaments. I know guys who only fish during the year when a tournament is taking place [prefishing and tournament day]. Myself I love to be on the water fishing ALOT more than that so thats where the fishing money goes-fishing alot more instead of sitting at home so I can save up money for tournaments. Only so much money and we all have to decide how we want to spend our fishing money. Theres no right and theres no wrong. It just depends on how we each want to spend our time fishing.
Thanks, BillOctober 22, 2006 at 9:34 pm #491404I never said any thing about making money . Just would have been nice to see the pay outs go up all the way around. I certanly dont fish these to make money I chose to participate for all the reasons you listed, If money was the issue I would just stay home and work.
Again flw is on the rite track and will continue to improve year after year. Next thing we need is to get on the support trailers (yamah, ranger, evenrude ect.) and make sure they start coming to our events I sure would have loved to see yamaha at escanaba .October 23, 2006 at 6:39 pm #491647Hey Stick Boy I though you liked that nice drive to get your motor fixed.
I agree that the Yamaha trailer should have been there for you and everyone else that needed any repairs. The bass tourney was just a little more important. Hopefully that will change in the future.
JamieOctober 23, 2006 at 10:27 pm #491787Yea the drive wasnt the most fun and the whole 15 min. of prefishing was cool. It was still fun I had a blast with you guys. Hope to see ya this year
October 24, 2006 at 12:47 am #491838I felt bad for you at Little Bay. I will give you credit for not giving up and driving all that way to get your motor running. The Bay was rough on alot of us. I was not going to fish the League this year. But now that the new schedule and payouts are here it has my attention again. Less time on the road away from family and a better chance at some good payouts.
