My partner and I fished the head of the lake ( the cans ). We were hand lining a 200 hundred yard stretch of the river on the upper end of the cans. We actually had a real good pre fishing week catching between 12 and 20 lbs. a day between handlining the river and trolling cranks on maiden rock. Call it a pre fish jinx as tourn. day came so did the weather front and it slowed down the bite. It was a morning bite and with the late start on saturday we never got there until about 10:00. We definately had are chances as we caught 1 16″ and lost about 8 more. On sunday we went back and had 4 keepers in the boat by noon and threw back a few dinks but couldnt get the fifth one to stay hooked up. My partner never lost a fish on sunday but again I had 5 more hookups come off and a couple of them felt real good. We were hoping to get are 5 early and then run to are big fish spot and search for a couple of pigs but it didnt happen. All was not lost though as we were fishing for the points to make the championship. We got enough to move us up to 23rd and into the big dance. We used every crank in the boat both days with orange, clown and perch catching the most in #9 and #7 jointed and original rapals. While pre fishing out on maiden rock we caught a 28 1/2″,26″ a few 24″ and 4 or 5 19″ to 23″. It definately had us excited. We didnt win any money but we had a great time. We ended up in 54th place for the tourn. The second place team was fishing next to us both days pulling leadcore down stream between 3 and 3 1/2 mph. Already looking forward to next year and the start of the IWT in next month at the end of October.
