Overcast skies and temperatutres ranging from 30 degrees to a high of 40 degrees greeted teams at the first Minnesota Division tournament at Red Wing Pool #4 today.
The Father and Son team of Jeff and Jared Franta didn’t let the less than ideal weather bother them as they weighed in the only five fish limit of the day for a total of 10.72 pounds to claim First Place. They also claimed big fish honors with a fish tipping the scales at 3.27 pounds. Jeff and Jared used a combination of hand lining crank baits and three-way rigging with live bait for the win.
Second Place went to the WWA 2005 Minnesota Team of the Year Roger and Sue Hugill who brought three fish to the scale weighing 5.46 pounds. They used a three-way rig with live bait throughout the day.
Third Place went to the team of Trey and Chevy Trowbridge with two fish weighing in at 4.25 pounds. Vertical jigging key areas of the river was the key to their catch.
Tomorrow is another day and another tournament on the WWA Minnesota circuit. Anglers head out again Sunday (tomorrow) to challenge the river and find the walleyes that will take them to the top of the leader board. Good luck!
