Here are the basics for the annual “Freeze Your Butt” tournament to be held out of Everts Resort Saturday March 4th.

    Cost: $20/two person team

    Big fish pot: $5

Register the day of the event at Everts Resort. Pre-Registration not available.

    Tourney hours: 7am-2:30pm

Weigh 5 fish, Can have a legal 2 man limit in boat.
Walleye and sauger count as legal fish. 15″ minimum on walleye……not sure if sauger under 15 can be weighed. Have to ask director day of tourney….

Take off and weigh-in is at Everts Resort.

Bruce Selle will once again be running this tourney.
Other details can be asked here, however this is a fun annual event and is low key. You do not need to be an experienced tourney angler to register….heck, you don’t have to have ever fished a tournament to fish it! Very low key. Just a fun way to start out the season and at a very affordable budget! Grab a friend and come on down March 4th !

I don’t know the answer for sure but my guess is that the tournament permit is for pool 4 only. Dean at Everts would know what pool the permit was applied for as he is the person who was kind enough to get the permit from Wisconsin for the tourney. [Thanks Dean]
    Thanks, Bill

I know Dean already answered your question, but wouldn’t it be illegal to put a Pool 2 walleye in the box?

    Sorry Derek,

Yes. Pool 2 >>> (Ford Dam in Minneapolis to the Hastings Dam) is all catch and release for Walleye, Sauger, Bass and Nothern/Musky. It’s an experimental reg that has been in place for a lot of years. It’s also the only inland water in Minneosota that can be fished year round for game fish. Remember, it is inland water and you can only use one line/hook per person.

I’ll be down to throw my $25 in the hat. How many boats does the FYB typically have? Am I going to have to be waking Dean up at 5:00 just to get a parking spot??

If last year was typical, get there EARLY Luckily we were staying at the cabins for the weekend. We had the boat in shortly after 5 and from then on, it was a steady stream of boats coming down the hill.

Maybe some of the veterans can add to this, but turnout is directly related to the weather. The last few years it certainly is not near as crazy as the late march early april time frame.

Is the launch fee included in the entry fee?

Either way, I may avoid congestion and launch in WI channel if it’s not too iced up.

If it is as chilly as last year, I will be doing the same thing You and Jim staying at a cabin or at their cabin in Lake City? Not sure what I am doing yet. I haven’t solidified a partner yet so not sure if I am coming up that morning or the day before. A little pre fishing would be nice

The 20.00 is the entry fee for the tournament only and the ramp fee is extra. Steve works very hard to keep the ramps open and in good shape for everyone. I’m sure the resort could use the income from the ramps after the winter slow period. Would hate to see what would happen if Everts ever had to close their doors. It would ruin ALOT of peoples fishing December through March every year with no place to launch your boat.
    Thanks, Bill

Thanks for the kind words fellas! This event like the ARM,IDA GTG,IDA Tourneys, and other events, Everts has been honored to host these outings.Under no circumstance do we want to make anyone feel that they have to launch here to particpate in this event, or any of the others. And for those who do,we sincerely appreciate your business.

Dean, any info you want to give us new comers? What time should a guy be there for the meeting? Anything else we need to know? Do we find you for the hot bite info?

    Here is the basic rundown……

Plan to get there a little early. Look for a guy with the tailgate of his pickup tailgate down parked somewhere around the bait shop. Have your $25+5 cash ready. (Don’t think he takes checks.) You will write your name and your partners name down on a sheet of paper and he will give you a boat number. Keep that number for weigh in so your weight gets matched up with your name!

Get bait, pay for launch, put boat in water and wait. About 10-15 minutes before 7am, everyone will stage for take off right out in front of Everts. At 7am Take off and go fish. Note, it’s basically a shotgun start so if you have a slow/small boat, best stay out of the way for a few minutes until the speed demons are gone. Nothing like a rooster tail shower when it’s 30 degrees out.

Be back at Everts for the 2:30 weigh in. Most folks just put their 5 fish in the net and bring them up to the scale usually located near the fish cleaning shack. Have fish weighed and they will return the fish back to you.

Payouts and places are usually based on number of teams. Winners take home a fistfull of $20 bills.

As Dean said, this is a laid back event.

That’s about it. Any questions, let me know.

    -J.
