Just talked to Scott and my buddy. My buddy had 3 fish and was sitting in 15th place. They caught lots of 13 inch fish. Sounded like the bite varied from spot to spot. Results should be posted soon.

Hooks son, Josh Hukriede took 19th as a boater and Mike W (Mike Westman) took 6th as a co-angler!!
Tough bite today, I think 40+ boats only weighed one fish. Josh brought in his 5 fish!
Great job!!!
May 29, 2005 at 12:43 am #365269Congrats guys. Still waiting for the results to be made available.

May 29, 2005 at 12:40 pm #365319Congrats to all the finishers, Buckshot, Josh, Stick boy, Lenny, Mike w. and Steve.
Steve will have lots of pics to post, I have a few, charging the batteries now.
Way to go IDA peoples, nice showing!
May 29, 2005 at 2:27 pm #365335I noticed one team had 3 fish for 1.9 pounds? Wasn’t there a minimum slot? Must a been some skinny 14’s?
May 29, 2005 at 2:55 pm #365340Are you sure the other two fish in the livewell weren’t bluegills? Just got off the phone with Nate and he said it was great to see alot of friends at the weigh in Saturday as he and Jessie were up there this weekend for some fun fishing with her Dad and Grandpa. They stayed at a nice small resort and campground on the south side of the lake that they really like. I will put a link to it at the bottom as I know alot of guys from the southern part of the state are always looking for a place to stay at up on the big lake. This place is more sheltered as there are islands out a ways in front of the place. Has its own private boat ramp too and a restaurant next door also. Nate and I stayed there a couple years ago. Nice place.
May 29, 2005 at 3:29 pm #365341This was a tough bite. My boaters pattern changed, but I’m sure many other guys were saying the same thing. He put me over fish all day long…can’t ask for anything more than that. We caught quite a few short fish and had a 22″ and 24″. All the fish looked quite healthy. It’s evident the forage base has recovered.
We didn’t put a fish in the box till 1:00 and that was a relief. At 5 minutes to 3:00, I put a barely leagal one in the box. Last minute keepers are fun.
I’ll see you guys at Cass.

May 29, 2005 at 4:43 pm #365343This event was alot of fun for me also. I want to thank Jon Jordan and Chuck D. for letting me come along for some pre fishing. Matt E. was my boater for the tourney. We stuck to one small area for the entire day. I think it was a good plan as the bite was not fast but for the entire day there was always someone in the area boating a fish. We took our 4 fish in this area and a few below and above the slot. Matt lost a nice fish at the end of the day while he was still trying to get it off the bottom. Pull up a leach that had the hook set back into it. That was rough.
What was most suprising about yesterday was when we weighed in and at that time was told we where in fourth place. It didnt sound like is was a matter of not finding fish for most of the teams. It was a matter of not finding the right fish.
On a side note did anyone fish the bite going on in front of fishers resort this weekend. Saturday morning there launch was in over a hour early due to being limited out. One boat that came by matt and I for one pass on saturday went back over in front on the resort and claimed to had caught over 30 eyes that morning. Whats up with this bite?
May 29, 2005 at 4:44 pm #365344Derek. There was a couple of teams that made it in late or had floaters. This might of been the case.
May 29, 2005 at 7:43 pm #365355Congrats to Geoff Brant and Rick Berscheid on your first place win!!! Way to Go guys!
I fished with Steve Brant Geoff’s Dad, we fished the same spot as Geoff using the same presentation and we could only put one legal fish in the boat a 19″ weighing in at 2.7lbs. All the rest of our fish were 21″ 22″ & 23″. Never thought I would be disappointed to see bigger fish come to the net
Steve is an awesome guy and an excellent fisherman and I had a great day on the water, Thanks Steve! With the first two tournaments behind us now I am sitting in 19th place on the Co-angler side for now, if I can finish it the top 35 I will be a happy camper! Here is a pic of Geoff Brant and his Co-angler Rick Berscheid, Rick also took first place on the Co-angler side at Mille Lacs last year! Way to go Rick and congrats on your first place win at Mille Lacs two years in a row!!!May 29, 2005 at 8:01 pm #365357I am not 100 percent sure if I have the second and third place names matched up with the correct pics so if I messed this up someone please let me know. I believe this is MARK LEADENS & TODD SPRINGER the second place team. Congrats guys!
May 29, 2005 at 8:06 pm #365358Congrats to the third place winners SCOTT LAMOREAUX & JOHN GRAHEK JR. Good job guys!!!
May 29, 2005 at 8:15 pm #365359Here is DAN KRUKOW from Rochester with his partner CHAD SMITH from Maple Grove collecting a check for 5th place. Congrats Dan and Chad!!!
May 29, 2005 at 10:34 pm #365366Nice fish Steve. Nice job Josh. I hear Tim and Bob were doing crowd control for FLW..
Sounded like a classic tourney bite, find the biters..
Nice finish Mike W. Gald to see you got in.. That would make sense on the 3 for 1.9
May 30, 2005 at 1:16 pm #365389Mike,
It was a fun grueling tournament. My partner Jim had the lucky stick. He boated a 19 and 17 inch walleye. The nail bighter was throwing a 20 inch on the line fish back.We ended up with a 5 fish limit weighing in at 7.7lbs.We lindy rigged the sand for all our fish.I tried to get one of those big fish to go in the mud,but they were not interested.
It was great that you and your buddy that works at Excell Energy were able to come help me and Chuck Dube and Jim Peter’s pre-fish.Let me know if you guy’s would like to pre-fish for Cass Lake.I will be going up early on Thursday.
Thanks again,
John GildersleeveMay 30, 2005 at 2:02 pm #365397Hey Mike;
I still have your extension cord. Call me if you are in the area.May 30, 2005 at 4:29 pm #365413Thanks for the report and pics Steve. Looks like everyone had a good time. Rough when bigger fish are no good for weight.

I’ll never get the slot mentality. I get mad when I see a 24″er come up but cheer for an 18″er.
I managed a couple legals though and finished 23. That kicks me up to 19th place for the year so far. If I can just get through Cass and Bemidji I’ll be back in in the flowing water for the finals.
May 30, 2005 at 9:01 pm #365426Cass lake does have the Mississippi flowing thru it. Cant believe there are much for wingdams up that far.
May 31, 2005 at 12:46 pm #365483Congrats to all the guys that finished well. It was a tough bite to say the least. Catching fish was not an issues but finding active small fish certaily was. I kind of got roped into this one at last minute and didn’t get to prefish but the lake really hasn’t changed since my last guide trips.
There are active walleye all over the lake. The better size fish for us have been coming out of 12-13 FOW and that includes the bigger slots. There are loads of fish in the 22-24 foot depths but the problem about fishing these is you get a lot of that 2002 year class. The good news is if you are looking for huge Jumbos, they are biting in the same 22-24 FOW.
One more congrats to Buckshot. He found a good slot spot prefishing and was able to get them to go tournament day. That is what it is all about
eyehntrPosts: 47May 31, 2005 at 4:50 pm #365522I fished the bite going on in front of fishers. On Friday I could’ve filled the boat with slots!! Everyone around was also catching fish. Tournament day it seemed the bite slowed with all the pressure and I only managed four slots over there. And at 2:20 my co-angler caught a 19.75 over on the west side to fill our limit and tie for 6th.
see you guys on Cass.
Brady
