Cabela’s Joins GNWC National Sponsorship Team

    By Steve Weisman
    GNWC Publicity Director
Cabela’s, the world’s foremost outfitter and the largest mail order,
retail and internet outfitter in the world, recently joined the Grand
National Walleye Cup’s (GNWC) growing list of national sponsors.
“We are excited to have Cabela’s come on board as a national sponsor,”
said GNWC Executive Director Bernie Barringer. “Their support is a great
addition to the rest of our national sponsors.”
According to Barringer, Cabela’s will sponsor the Big Fish Award at all
of the 36 tournaments across the seven-region circuit. “The Cabela’s Big
Fish Award will be a $200 Cabela’s shopping spree. It’s a great prize, and I
know that the teams will really be hoping to cash in on this opportunity.”
Cabela’s, in addition to the mail order and internet opportunities,
    currently has 18 retail stores.
Major national sponsors for the GNWC now include Skeeter Boats, Yamaha
Outboards, Lowrance Electronics, YoNet Folding Nets by AMFYOYO, Aqua-VU,
    Aqua Innovations, Cabela’s and UpNorthOutdoors.com.

Is this Gander Mountain’s tourmant series? I wonder why they would share it with Cabela’s.

From what I have heard Gander Moutain pulled its sponsorship from the GNWC and now Cabelas has stepped in to fill the empty spot.
    Thanks, Bill

Gander Moutain’s stock has been hurting, I wonder if there is any connection.

    Thanks Bill!

Gander pulled its sponsorship some time ago. Actually, it was at announced at the same time it was announced that Gander was going to start selling Stratos, and Champion boats. Being that the GNWC is also sponsored by Skeeter might have something to do with Gander dropping the GNWC, but that would only be speculation on my part.

Bernie Barringer contacted me a couple days ago and informed me that he will be meeting with the Cabelas people next week. Apparently Cabelas wants to expand its involvment with the team tournament series, and the meeting is for them to discuss futher, Cabelas involvment next year and into the future. For this year though, Cabelas is only partially filling the void of Ganders pull out.

    Thanks for the info Jack.

Cabela’s is also involved with MWC, right? I have also seem them involved with other tournaments as a secondary sponsor. They are so powerful they could start their own circuit and probably make it work. There may not be room for another circuit.

They use to have NAWA Circuit for walleye fisherman. They backed off for awhile then jumped into the MWC and now GNWC.
    Thanks, Bill
