Ohio GNWC Teams Prepare for April 30th Lake Erie Tournament

    By Steve Weisman
    GNWC Publicity Director
With one tournament under their belts, the walleye teams on the Ohio
Region of the Grand National Walleye Cup (GNWC) are preparing for the Lake
Erie tournament at Huron, OH on Saturday, April 30.
The Lake Erie qualifier is the second of four tournaments in Ohio, which
ultimately leads to the Ohio Region Championship in August at C. J. Brown
    Reservoir near Springfield.
“We had an excellent turnout of 46 teams for our first tournament at
Mosquito Creek Lake,” said GNWC Executive Director Bernie Barringer. “Now we
head to Huron, OH and Lake Erie with its incredible walleye fishery. This
will be a great opportunity to experience walleye fishing at its finest.”
Chris Wood, who runs the Cranberry Creek Tackle, echoes those
sentiments. “I think it’s going to be good. The walleyes will be done
spawning. I am sure that teams will run the 17-20 miles to the islands, but
there will also be a good local bite going on right here.”
The tournament director will have the trailer at Cranberry Creek Marina
from 6-8 p.m. the evening before the tournament to take late entries and
answer questions. Take-off is at 7 a.m. with the weigh-in commencing at 3
p.m. sharp at Cranberry Creek Marina.
“We should see some huge weights come in at Saturday’s weigh-in. I
encourage the public to come out and witness the weigh-in. They are free to
the public, fun and educational. We will also have a couple of Aqua-Vu
underwater cameras set up in our release tanks so that the public can see
how they work. The weigh-in is a great place to find out from the teams what
presentations and tactics worked to trigger the fish,” added Barringer.
For those interested in entering, the entry fee remains at $210 per
team for each tournament. Openings do still exist for the Lake Erie
qualifier, and Barringer encourages interested anglers to contact him at
1-800-890-FISH (3474), or email the GNWC at [email protected]. “I also
encourage people to check out our website at http://www.walleyecup.com and see what
the results are in each of our seven regions,” added Barringer.
Major national sponsors for the GNWC include Skeeter Boats, Yamaha
Outboards, Lowrance Electronics, YoNet Folding Nets by AMFYOYO, Aqua-VU,
Aqua Innovations, Towtector Shield, VIB”E” Lure Company and
    UpNorthOutdoors
