Why would you keep big prespawned fish just for a plaque?

Most of the Females we caught were spawned out. I only saw 1 that had spawn coming out of her. And there 3 teams for a combined weight of about 87 pounds.I don’t know how WS do it, but the IDA tourny, all big females swam away with gusto!!

Drake, Walleye Searchers tournaments are catch, measure, and release. There were NO bigger walleyes or sauger put in livewells.

    Drake,
I can gaurantee that everone of my teams fish went back within a few seconds of hitting the net. Heck we even did quick release on the ones that didn’t make it to the net.
We at the Walleye Searchers Of MN noticed this as a concern and have made every effort to insure that all fish no matter what size would have the best chance of survival. So as Hawg mention we have changed are format to a catch, measure and release.
    Thank you

    Drake,

As Kerry said, the Walleye Searchers member’s tournaments are a catch, measure, and optional immediate release format. We convert the length of the fish to its average weight using the table at http://www.walleyesearchers.com/lenghtweight.htm then add up the best 5 calculated weights for each team. No fish are ever weighed at the end of the day.

This tournament format should hopefully have little, or no delay mortality for the fish caught at our member’s tournaments.

THAT’S a good Idea! You use the calculation then??? Do you add any weight for spawn?

No weight is added for a fat fish or subtracted for a skinny fish – that way we are all on the same playing field.

    Chappy,
It would have been nice to see the weight on the fish. But I know come this summer it will most likely give help the weights as well, so it is a even playing feild.
I did have a 23″+ Sauger that was well over 5lbs. It is satisfiing to watch them swim away.
    Thanks

In my opinion, this is one of the best moves the Club has ever made.

Hey DRAKE I see you live in Rochester, you should come to a Walleye Searchers meeting and see what we are all about, we meet the first Monday of every month at the Elks Club at 7PM.
