Detroit River Qualifier Postponed until April 17

With the ice flow increasing into the Detroit River and the promise of
more to come, the Grand National Walleye Cup’s Detroit River qualifier
scheduled for Sunday, April 3 has been postponed to Sunday, April 17.
GNWC Executive Director Bernie Barringer explained the decision. “We
waited as long as we possibly could in hopes that the river would clear up.
However, there is still potentially hazardous conditions due to the ice
flow, and the safety of the anglers is our highest concern.”
Barringer notes that even though the date has been moved until April 17,
everything else remains the same. The tournament director will have the
trailer at Elizabeth Park from 6-8 the evening before the tournament to take
late entries and answer questions.
Take-off on the 17th is at 7 a.m. with the weigh-in commencing at 3 p.m.
sharp at Elizabeth Park.
For anglers interested in learning more about any of the Michigan
qualifiers, Barringer encourages them to contact him at 1-800-890-FISH
(3474), or email the GNWC at [email protected]. “I also encourage people
to check out our website at http://www.walleyecup.com and see what the Grand
National Walleye Cup is all about,” added Barringer.
