A couple of the Red Wing dates changed recently. May want to take another look if you made your plans off of the “Tentative Schedule”.

January 25, 2005 at 7:01 pm #338530Jon,
Are you planning on fishing any MTT events this year? Hope to see you this year. If not, maybe I’ll see you at Fishermans again this summer. Take it easy.
January 25, 2005 at 9:28 pm #338578I’ll definately be at the Wharf next year. Stop on by. I may fish the MTT on Mille Lacs if I can get a partner. DOn’t have anything lined up now.

jldiiPosts: 2294January 26, 2005 at 1:37 am #338629Anyone know why the Mille Lacs tourneys were moved from Macs Twin Bay to Izatys?
January 26, 2005 at 3:46 pm #338758I was wondering about that myself. Maybe if Diane is listning she can fill us in?? Does anyone know if the MTT staff will still be working the Mac’s couples tournament this year? Sure hope so.
jldiiPosts: 2294January 26, 2005 at 4:22 pm #338773Good question. Usually the MTT has a tourney the day after the couples, so they’re there anyway.
I do like that couples tourney!!
January 26, 2005 at 5:10 pm #338786The guy at Izaty’s is really a aggressive promoter. I am sure they offered more than McQuoids to get the tournaments there.
January 26, 2005 at 8:17 pm #338837I do know there seemed to be alot of people parking where ever they wanted, maybe that had something to do with it?
January 27, 2005 at 1:47 pm #338984If anyone is not familiar with the MTT you should look into their circuit. They run a really good tournament for weekend anglers. The competition is very good and the locations are even better. I fished the MTT for many years but will not be able to fish any of their spring events in Red Wing this year because of scheduling conflicts with the FLW tour. But, I encourage others looking to get into walleye fishing to take a look at the MTT.
January 27, 2005 at 9:22 pm #339118Hey Jack, any idea what the date for the couples tourny is this year? My wife and I fished it last year and she had a blast!! Even got her to take a ride in one of the Ranger 620’s that were giving promo rides. I think one more of those and she’ll be sold(fingers crossed)!!
I agree 100% with Mr. Steil. The MTT is a fantastic way to get your toes in the tournament water. Can’t wait to do it again this year. Everyone there is top-notch.
jldiiPosts: 2294January 27, 2005 at 10:10 pm #339129The couples is always that same weekend in July. This year that Sat. falls on the 23rd.
I just got off the phone with Kevin at Twin Bay, and he didn’t know that the MTT pulled out and was going out of Izatys until the other day when I called and left a message.
Maybe some of the guys didn’t like the fact Kevin charged to launch at his place for the tourney. Why shouldn’t he, it is a business. With the limited parking around there on the weekends with all the campers at the resort, he had to encourage (discourage) people to launch at the public ramp and motor over for the take off.It could be a scarry take off going out of that harbor at Izatys if there is a blow out of the N. or NW. As low as the water was at the end of last season, there’s a good chance that channel could be pretty shallow.
January 27, 2005 at 10:41 pm #339136We didnt mind paying the access fee at all. Aaron was great to us. Not sure what the deal is.
A north blow will make it interesting thats for sure.January 28, 2005 at 3:06 am #339166I’m guessing the reason it moved is a combination of the reasons mentioned. Izaty’s may have offered them something -probably no access fee?I don’t know. I’m just guessing here. I’ll try to email Diane and see if she knows.
The access fee out of Mac’s was unusual, I can not recall another resort that charged when the tournament was being held out of that resort, regardless of lake.
It doesn’t look like the MTT will be doing the weigh in for the Couple’s Tournament. The schedule shows they will be at Winnie that weekend.
That’s too bad we always liked to fish Mac’s Couple’s Tournament on Saturday and then the MTT on Sunday.
Scott, too bad we won’t be fishing against you guys this year – unless you make it up to Lake of the Woods. Tell Adam we say hi.

January 28, 2005 at 12:32 pm #339206Welcome Vickie. Glad to have you with us. Please feel free to share and post all you want.
Thanks, BillJanuary 28, 2005 at 2:25 pm #339237Talking with them this fall it sounded like it was a headache with the campers at the resort, ALOT of parking issues is what it sounded like.
January 28, 2005 at 6:03 pm #339286Wow, the Rush City Ranger is still alive. How are you going buddy?
January 28, 2005 at 7:02 pm #339300I don’t know…I kind of go back and forth on the whole access charge thing. I realize he’s running a business and I certainly want them to succeed but it seems a little cheap as well. I know we put a lot of money into the bar/resturant that would not have been there without the tournaments, not to mention the lodging and other extras. I would wager he made more money on that kind of stuff than he did on the access fee, and now there’s nothing. Good business practice? Don’t ask me, I don’t have a degree in it. Not to mention that this is all 100% speculation sinse I don’t know the true reason. Guess I’m just bored with this hard-water season!!!
jldiiPosts: 2294January 28, 2005 at 7:55 pm #339315The resort does not own the bar/restaurant. They are seperate businesses with different owners. Same with the motel, owned by someone else.
3 seperate businesses, 3 seperate owners. Just FYI.
jldiiPosts: 2294January 29, 2005 at 6:13 am #339435I should own the dam thing by now!! H*ll, I live there from mid May till the first of Oct.!!
January 29, 2005 at 7:16 pm #339473Thanks for the information Jack, I didn’t know that. See how ignorant I can be!! That does make a difference in my mind. Hope I didn’t ruffle any feathers.
January 31, 2005 at 11:14 pm #339854I talked to Diane and she said that Izaty’s contacted Mike Holt, the owner and director of the MTT, about headquartering the tournaments out of their resort. She didn’t know all the specifics but said it was a business decision to make the move.

Thanks, BillFebruary 25, 2005 at 1:39 am #345498i talked to todd and diane at the walleye expoe this past weekend . she told me that it was a far better offer from izatys there was alot of complaints from the locals about the parking and the fishermen were complaining about having to pay to launch on top of the tourament fee.
February 25, 2005 at 6:01 am #345536Hi Vickie,I see you have been checking all the sites lately. We will be fishing some of the MTT tournys this year as well.See ya on the water.
RobertFebruary 25, 2005 at 6:20 am #345537I like MTB but it is always a pain trying to find a place to dock to get your fish weighed in.Some of there clients were also mad that people were parked in there slips.Cant blame them for that.Im not sure how full Izatys slips are but they have a lot of docks and may be less congestion. They also have a nice bar.
jldiiPosts: 2294February 25, 2005 at 3:58 pm #345600I hope they let the tournament boats launch for free, because their normal charge is $20/day to launch!!
