PIERRE, S.D. (July 6, 2004) – The Wal-Mart RCL Walleye League South Dakota
Division will wrap up its regular season July 17-18 with a Super Tournament
presented by Evinrude on Lake Oahe. The tournament is the third and final
regular-season event en route to the $100,000 Wal-Mart RCL Walleye League
Finals, set for Sept. 2-4 on Bays de Noc in Escanaba, Mich.
The Lake Oahe event marks the season’s only two-day event and also features
a larger purse. The tournament will award as much as $34,945 to as many as 200
boaters and co-anglers, up from the $25,955 payout at one-day RCL League events.
The winning boater can earn as much as $5,250, including $4,500 for the win plus
a $750 bonus if he is a registered owner of a Ranger, Crestliner or Lund boat.
The winning co-angler can earn as much as $2,625, including a winning prize of
$2,250 plus a Ranger, Crestliner or Lund bonus worth $375 if contingency
guidelines are met. Payouts are based on a full field of 100 boaters and 100
    co-anglers.
Anglers will take off from Spring Creek Resort at 7 a.m. both days.
    Saturday’s weigh-in will also be held there at 3 p.m., and Sunday’s weigh-in
will be held at the Wal-Mart store located at 1600 N. Harrison Ave. in Pierre
beginning at 3 p.m. The community is encouraged to attend daily takeoffs and
    weigh-ins.
In RCL League competition, boaters and co-anglers are randomly paired for
the event and fish for a combined boat weight. Boaters compete against other
boaters, and co-anglers compete against other co-anglers.
Four RCL Walleye League divisions – Michigan, Minnesota, South Dakota and
Wisconsin –each feature two one-day events and one two-day Super Tournament
during the regular season. Every angler who receives weight credit earns points,
with 200 points awarded to the winner, 199 for second, 198 for third, and so on,
except for Super Tournaments, which award 300 points to the winner, 299 for
second, 298 for third, and so on. These points determine angler standings.
The top 25 boaters and 25 co-anglers from each RCL League division advance
to the RCL Walleye League Finals, and the top five boaters and five co-anglers
from each division qualify for the $1.4 million Wal-Mart RCL Walleye
Championship if they are a Ranger, Crestliner or Lund owner.
