We started our prefishing up near the 212 bridge. Pulling livebait on snells was the best approach by far. The fishing was really good during practice. However, we made the run one time and soon realized 57 miles by boat, one is a long haul.
We then shifted our attention to the areas around the Cheyenne River mouth. While prefishing I found an area that would consitantly put out fish each day and lots of them. This was a rocky point that dropped fairly quick to deep water. Pulling crawlers on plain hook snells was the best approach.
For big fish I trolled cranks along the flatter areas of the river. I worked 21 ft of water most of the time however, on day four I had to totally change my plan and ended up pulling all my big fish suspended over 25-30 ft of water. Changing presentations each day was a must. Everyday I got some fish rigging and some trolling. Doing just one or the other would not have worked for me. I concetrated on the areas between the spring creek lauch and the Cheyenne River.
That is quite a lake and the fish are really getting fat again. The fish appear to grow really fast so it will be interesting to see what size the bigger fish are next year. Lots or fun
