Bohn, Hennen Find Shallow Rock Hump Holds the Key to Rush Lake Title
By Steve Weisman

For most of the teams at Sunday’s Rush Lake tournament on the Minnesota
Region of the Gander Mountain Grand National Walleye Cup (GNWC), it was a
weedline bite. However, for Corey Bohn from Kensington, MN and Doug Hennen
from Perham, MN, it was a shallow rock hump that held the fish.
Bohn and Hennen, who took home the $1200 first place check, weighed a
six-fish limit weight of 10.55 pounds. Their rock hump topped out at less
than 10′, and they used live bait rigs to trigger their fish.
Second place and a check for $600 went to Randy Klasen from Maple Grove,
MN and Joe Hyser from Minneapolis, MN with a six-fish limit weighing 9.95
pounds.
Mike Mortinson from Fergus Falls, MN and Brian Dykhoff from Erhard, MN
took third place and a check for $520 with a weight of 8.15 pounds.
The Berkley Trilene Big Fish Award of $400 in Berkley products went to
Corey Bjorgaard from Inver Grove Heights, MN and David Domonoski from
Waterville, MN for their 4.82-pound walleye.
“For most of the teams, it was a weedline bite,” said Gander Mountain
GNWC Executive Director Bernie Barringer. “So you have to give Bohn and
Hennen credit for finding that one spot that would make the difference.”
Special awards include the following. The “Yo So Close” award of a Yo
Net folding net valued at $80 was awarded to the three teams that placed out
of the money. Those teams include Greg Rudisill and Mike Schaffer from
Woodbury, MN in 9th place; Lee Mendenhall from New Richland, MN and Gary
Nordlie from Owatonna, MN in 10th place; and Dave Oldakowski from Ham Lake,
MN and Sean Westman from Andover, MN in 11th place.
Todd Anderson from Bloomington, MN and John Arden from Buffalo, MN won
the Gander Mountain “Need More Stuff” drawing of $200 for a Gander Mountain
Shopping Spree.
“I want to thank the Lake County Sportsman’s Club for their help at the
weigh-in. It takes a lot of people to make the weigh-in go smoothly, and
these people volunteered their time to make sure that it did,” added
Barringer.
Bjorgaard and Domonoski used their fifth place finish at Rush Lake to
take the lead in the race for the Minnesota Region Team of the Year with 7
points. Their closest competitors are Dave Oladowski from Ham Lake, MN and
Sean Westman from Andover, MN with 18 points.
