Hunters Point Resort will host its 2nd annual Susan G. Komen Walleye Extravaganza June 6th & 7th on Mille Lacs Lake. It’s a $1,000 entry fee first 100 applicants accepted. Over 85% payouts with a dinner after the first day. All sponsorships will be donated to the Susan G. Komen foundation. Last year we raised over $10,000. First of all this tournament has a lot of things going for it. # 1 is donations to the Susan G Komen foundation. #2 big payouts and good people running the show. I have a few thoughts to get more interest considering the turnout this year. I didn’t fish it because of the low turn out. Not the bite or weather. A way to solve this is to set a deadline for entry fees 3 weeks or so prior to the tourney. People are pre fishing up until you have to be off the lake and then making a decision based on what they catch. If the entry fee is already paid they don’t have that choice. Every tournament that does this seems to lose anglers when they don’t make people prepay. I know economy and fuel price are variables for tournaments these days too but it’s just a thought. Also the info needs to be sent out a bit earlier and extra flyers so us anglers can hang them in local bait shops to get the word out. I believe with a bit more advertising this can be a full tourney and one of the best on Millacs lake. Comments and feedback please.
