I never doubted the lake to be ice free for the event and then I seen a video from yesterday of Fisher’s who went out 1.5 miles and there was 16″ of ice.
Going to be 85 tomorrow and windy again. Let hope it does some damage. I just wonder when Mike will have to make the call by. Hopefully they can wait till Friday!
May 13, 2013 at 6:21 pm #1170508Really sucks….Lets hope Tuesday’s heat and wind breaks it up. If canceled, would it get rescheduled or would they just move forward with the schedule as is?
May 13, 2013 at 10:14 pm #1170572Today’s polar views showed ML ice moved to north and about half gone–if you can extrapolate through the passing cloud front. Nice cracks Sunday on lower Red. Check back about three years in late April Modis archives for the spectacular series. Anyone heard about Greenwood up in the Arrowhead–usually last to go?

It is not even close to half gone.

Agree. Not even 90 percent free of ice yet–today– but could be over half gone by Thursday if the west/NW wind in the forecast comes true for late tonight/Wednesday.

You would think they would have to call it off before then… Wishing and hoping is costly for everyone. Either way I will be back!

Official ice out criteria is an ice free ride from Garrison to Isle. If the wind blows hard enough and is sustained long enough from the west/NW, I think it is possilbe to have that criteria met by sometime on Thursday. The ice in the NW third of the lake is pretty bad right now. Quite fragmented. Easy for the waves to do away with. Then by late Thursday, wind from a southerly direction is in forecast. More west wind on Friday. Done deal?
Time will tell…and the big NW wind or lack of will be the key.
May 15, 2013 at 1:54 am #1170889Talked to the mtt guys they are going up in a plane and will have a decision by Thursday. Hope it’s all clear. Need to get out.

Looks like I’ll be adding a date or two in Winnie…
