Gander Mountain Grand National Walleye Cup Heads to Muskegon
By Steve Weisman
Gander Mountain GNWC Publicity Director
The Gander Mountain Grand National Walleye Cup (GNWC) will hold its
second Michigan qualifier at Muskegon on Sunday, May 23.
With the first tournament under the belt, Gander Mountain GNWC Executive
Director had this to say about the Muskegon tournament. “This is opur first
year in Michigan, and we have already seen a lot of excitement building as
we grow a circuit for the weekend warrior. Michigan has some great walleye
fisheries, and the Muskegon event should be an eye-opener for many.”
While Muskegon Lake is primarily known for its night-bite walleyes, the
GNWC teams will have to figure out where they go during the day. It will be
challenge, but the angler who unlocks the secret will go home with some nice
trophies, a fat check and the title of Muskegon Walleye Champion.
Openings still exist for the Muskegon qualifier and Barringer encourages
interested anglers to contact him at 1-800-890-FISH (3474), or email the
GNWC at [email protected].
The tournament director will have the trailer at Fisherman’s Landing
from 6-8 p.m. the evening before the tournament to take late entries and
answer questions.
Teams are to meet at Fisherman’s Landing between 6-6:30 the morning of
the tournament for registration and mandatory boat check.
Take-off is at 7 a.m. with the weigh-in commencing at 3 p.m. sharp at
Fisherman’s Landing. “I think we will see some great weights come to the
scales. I hope that a good crowd shows up to not only see the fish but to
also learn what presentations worked the best. It should be very
educational!” said Barringer.
