WHITE, PARSHALL WIN WAL-MART RCL WALLEYE LEAGUE EVENT ON DETROIT RIVER
TRENTON, Mich. (April 26, 2004) – Boater Gus White of St. Helen and co-angler Ronald Parshall of Brownstown Township combined for a total of five walleyes weighing 27 pounds, 6 ounces to claim victory at the Wal-Mart RCL Walleye League tournament held Saturday on the Detroit River. White claimed $2,625 plus a $500 bonus for the win, with Parshall earning $1,313 from the Michigan Division event.
The pair caught the winning limit of walleyes along the Trenton channel in 10 to 12 feet of water by jigging 4-inch Berkley Power Worms on 1/2-ounce jigs.
Finishing second were Henry Kisselburg of Ypsilanti ($1,350 plus $400 bonus) and Scott Schabel of DeWitt ($675) with five walleyes weighing 27 pounds, 1 ounce. Joel Otto of Atlanta ($1,125 plus $300 bonus) and Jon Chappin of Midland ($563) caught five walleyes weighing 26 pounds, 7 ounces to finish third. Jason Kerr of Holly ($975 plus $250 bonus) and Jason Howell of Dimondale ($487 plus $125 bonus) claimed fourth place with five walleyes that weighed 25 pounds, 8 ounces. Finishing fifth were Gary Myas of Kalkaska ($675) and William Tucker of Allen Park ($337) thanks to a five-walleye catch that weighed 25 pounds, 1 ounce.
The Michigan Division’s next stop will be June 5 on Houghton Lake followed by the final regular-season event, a two-day Super Tournament, July 31-August 1 on Saginaw Bay. Boaters and co-anglers who finish in the top 25 in final points standings in each RCL Walleye League division will advance to the $100,000 RCL League Finals Sept. 2-4 on Bays de Noc in Escanaba, Mich. The winning boater at the finals will receive an Evinrude-or Yamaha-powered Ranger, Crestliner or Lund boat. Every angler who receives weight credit in a tournament earns points, with 200 points awarded to the winner, 199 points for second, and so on, except for Super Tournaments, which award 300 points to the winner, 298 to second, and so on.
