I have had a few messages sent to me asking why I am not running FYB this year. What went wrong? Was it the Everts deal? Who pissed you off? I’ll post here in case anyone else was interested in the answer.

First off, when Dean took over the contest several years ago, he asked me if I could help out. I have always done the job as a personal favor for my good friend Dean. I have enjoyed every minute of it. The last few years has seen some big fields, big weights and a lot of big fish. I have met a lot of great guys, gals and youngsters along the way. Also learned a lot of things about fishing the river from some great pool 4 sticks. I would not trade it for anything!

The decision was strictly personal. If I’m going to commit to doing something, I will promise you it will be done well. I feel like Dean and I have had a great run. No major screw ups and I did my best to address every single concern brought to my attention. I think the contest today is better than ever. With that said, I just don’t feel like I had the time and energy to do the best job possible. That reason alone is the reason I am stepping aside.

I have nothing but confidence Dean and Eric will continue to put on the best entry level tourney on the river! And best of all, I may actually get to fish it again!!!

    Take care,

    -J.

Jon, my hat is off to you sir. Every tournament you have been involved in has been well ran and the safety of the participants has always been top priority. I know a few times when it was foggy and you have a bunch of cranky guys nipping at your heels it was not easy but you made sure we all got off safely and everyone returned with no major incidents. I thank you for that and all the other little things you have done to make your tournaments safe and fun affairs. Heck, I think you have even handed the boy and me a check or two over the years. I look forward to seeing you on the water and thanks for all you have done
