First off I want to thank everyone that came out for the pool 2 fishing contest and get together. Had a great time yesterday and the food was great after the contest. We had 13 teams that fished yesterday which I thought was a pretty good turnout for a small contest like this. Must of had 30+ people that stayed around for a couple of hours afterwards for food and telling fish stories. It was great being able to put some faces to many of you guys that we talk with on line here. Thanks again for coming out.

For the winners of the contest.

    First place.
James Ross and Jon Jordan. 110.25″ 5 walleyes.

    Second Place
Joe Busch and Jack Brook. 102.25″ 5 walleyes

    Third Place.
Jason Papenfuss and Ken Amundson. 101″ 3 walleye, 2 suager.

Big fish honers went to Jon Jordan and James Ross with a nice 26.5″ walleye.

Photos of our top three place winners.

We had 13 teams go out yesterday which I thought was a great turn out for this little contest. What was better yet was that every team caught fish with the exception of one that had some motor issues. It looked like most teams found around a half dozen walleyes or saugers for the 6 hr contest. Also heard of a number of bass, northern, white bass, catfish and even a few carp being hooked to keep these guys guessing if that was that big walleye hook up on the end of the line. I think the family team of Francis, Peggy, and Tyler Kerkhove had the best numbers game going yesterday with over 20 walleye/saugers being trolled up. Way to go guys. With a decent bite going and mild fall weather you couldnt of asked for a better day to go fishing.

Here are the results from the rest of our teams.

4th place. Steve Root, Jeff (Mudshark) 95″, 5 fish.
5th place. Peggy, Francis, Tyler Kerkhove. 94.5″, 5 fish.
6th place. Drew, Phil Engelmeyer. 92.5″, 5 fish.
7th Place. Bob Juertin, Ron Zimmerman. 87.5″, 5 fish.
8th Place. Martin Verieze, Bruce Neil. 84.5″, 4 fish.
9th Place. Dan Cayeaux, Mike Desplinter. 80.75″, 4 fish.
10th Place. Tad Erickson, Bruce Anderson. 72.5″, 5 fish.
11th Place. Gary, Derrick Richards. 69.5″, 4 fish.
12th Place. Eric Tuedt, Kendall Palmer, 53″, 3 fish.
13th Place. Pete, Kevin Bauer. 0, Motor Problems.

Thanks again guys for making this a great event. Please add any pictures you had from yesterday to this post. Look forward to doing this again next year.

Joel and I did get out to fish a little during the contest yesterday and check in on how some of you guys where doing on the water. We pretty much tried to stick to places that you guys where not fishing and we ended up with 2 walleyes. A 23″ and 18.75″.

Great job putting the contest on and it was alot of fun…At least we didn’t come in dead last.

It was great for me because I got to learn parts of the river I didn’t know before and Eric was a blast to fish with!

Again, great job putting it on.

We had a ton of fun….like I said before…great people, great fishing and great weather made for an awesome time. Thanks for putting that on guys.

We would’ve liked to get into a big fish or two. We caught five fish trolling dunes, including some dandy saugers (one which tried to chew off my index finger), and then went to the dams looking for upgrades. We managed only 1 23″ inch fish on the dams. I hope the next couple months bring even better fishing and now familiar faces.

I’d also like to thank everyone who made it to the P2 event yesterday. Mike and I talked about it afterwords and we really could not think of anything that wasn’t good other then Pete and Kevin having motor problems and Brian not being able to be in the contest because of not having a partner. Pete and Kevin would definetly not have zeroed and may have given Jon and James a run for 1st place. And Brian still fished and participated and he did well too.

And the food was awesome with a lot of variety. Peggy also needs to be thanked for helping organize and getting the pot-luck part rolling!

Thanks for posting the pics Jason so that people can see how a catch photo release tourney works. And Jason also brought some really good pies!

Thanks again Mike and Joel for everything! Despite having tilt/trim problems with the motor, it was still fun to stop out for the Pot-Luck and talk with everyone about their day.

We could have fished close to the landing with the position that the motor locked in however it bugged me too much, I wanted to get it fixed. Good news is it’s back in action and will be ready for next years contest

Great job to the winners, well deserved!

Great job Mike and Joel! Fun day on the water and can’t beat the weather, the food and the company at weigh in!

We ran south and got our first wing dam fish 10 minutes into the day. Spent an hour there without another walleye. Headed down river to a back channel cut with a little current. Got another fish on the board there and after about a 1/2 hour went hunting around the area. Didn’t find much going on so we came back to this spot and grinded out a limit by about 11:30 or so. We got a nice mix of eyes and a couple big channel cats and a big carp to keep it interesting! Decided to camp there for the day. When we left to head back upstream, we had 7 decent fish on the board. Our plan was to go back up and finish the day on the wingdam we started on, pretty close to the park. However, there was a boat on that wingdam and we dropped in on the next dam down. With about 20 minutes left to fish, I got lucky and stick that 26.5er that put us on top for the day!

That carp went 33 and the cat was thick and heavy. The carp hit James’s hairjig in a foot of water and shot downstream fast! We chased that beast on full thrust downstream 80-100 yards before getting on top of it. What a rush. That thing tested the drag for sure! Kinda the same deal with the cat. No big runs, but man that fish did not come to the net easy on light jig and walleye rod! Both of those fish were hooked in the lip. No snags there!!!

Here are our 5 fish. Kinda hard to see the numbers on the ruler, but if you pull them into MS paint or other photo software that will zoom in, you can see the ruler marks.

no kidding…it looks like you caught the three biggest fish of the day right there Jon…not just the walleye. I don’t recall seeing any photos of channels that big on the river recently.

Thanks for putting this on Mike and Joel!

For not fishing P2 in 2-3 years we did ok. Had 1 come off right at the net. After that, just rookie mistakes and not knowing the water as well as we should.

Thank god I had Kendall for a partner as I struggled all day and did not hold up my end of the bargain.

Oh well! Good to meet some new people and again, thanks to the organizers for putting this on.

I wondered where the congrats and thank you thread was.
Congrats to the winners, nice job.
A big thanks to Mike and Joel and Peggy. We had a great time in my first tournament. I’m happy with how we did, even though I had a grass carp fisherman for a partner. I look forward to seeing some of you on the river this fall.
    Thanks again.

Sorry it took awhile to reply. This was a great event and I had an awesome time. The win didn’t hurt either.
I really miss fishing the river and it was great to get back to my home town and fish the waters I fished in high school. Its funny. I have been telling my wife for a few years that I want to get back into tourney fishing and she just rolls her eyes as she thinks its just an excuse to spend more money on fishing. But now that we won, even though it was only a 13 boat tourney, she like “Hey, maybe you and Jon J should fish more tourneys together.”
It was a well run get together and it was great to meet everyone there and make some new friends. I will definetly be down for the next one.
