Saturday, October 1st will be the 2nd Annual Charity Walleye CPR Tournament out of Albany. This tournament is to support the completion of the Mississippi River Eco-Center over in Rock Creek. With it being a Catch, Photo, Release Tournament all the slot fish count towards your totals, so have fun catching big fish. Last year high water and a lightning storm chased most guys away, but we still raised a couple hundred bucks for the center.

If your not familiar with Pool 14 walleyes, I’d highly suggest you spend some time there. October walleyes are big and fat. Walleyes 24-27″ are common, and 22-24″ fish are the minimum expectation that time of year. I’ve attached a photo of a typical fish that I caught while taking a few minutes to fish between hunting and running back to the ramp.

Our point system is a little different this year in that I took actual length/weight data from the pool to estimate weights instead of the total length point system. Also, if you can show the fish released in your verification video, you can catch multiple fish in the centimeter groups.

Two thirds of entry fees go to the charity while the remainder is returned in prize money. We have some great door prizes worth more than your entry fee(rod/reel combos, St. Croix Rods, etc…)from Cabela’s and R&R Sports in Clinton. It’s a lot of fun and the fishing is always great that time of year. If your interested PM me or send me an email at [email protected] and I’ll send you a pamphlet.

I’ve never fished pool 14 before. I just always assumed that pool 13 was better. Can you catch walleye right now? Do you have to troll for them? I’m not very good at trolling. Are there very many wing dams on pool 14? Should I, or could I target those wing dams with crankbaits? Is the water too high right now?

The water is a little high for wingdam fishing right know. There are fish biting you just need to put some time in looking . Target slack water next to back water areas and don’t be afraid to pitch flooded wood. Walleye act a lot like bass this time of year. If you can find bait and cover it will hold eyes. I fished the tourney last year it was a lot of fun. I hope you can make it.

Thanks for the info. Much appreciated. Should one fish early, or late for walleye, or does it matter? Clear skies, or overcast? Is walleye the top species on pool 14? Thanks.

This time of the year it doesn’t matter you put it in front of them they will bite around the clock. Bass, catfish, walleye, and panfish all call pool 14 home. All species get plenty of pressure, but there are opportunity’s for all.
