Said the H**L with work and headed down to RW for a day of fun, sun, High Waters, Big ice chunks and hopefully a few fish. Although we usually unload at Evert’s, We knew parking could be tuff since we didn’t get there until 10:00, we opted to unload at Wis channel, this is what we arrived to…… (The landing was closed when we left) Got unloaded and headed down stream, started off with 33.5 degree water temps, started fishing in 8′-14′ in a nice current seam, immediatly by buddy SeaBass hooks up with a nice 19″ eye, a few min. later I hook up with a keeper sauger.
A short while later, another keeper sauger. Then she died off. Not giving up hope, we moved around and tried some deeper water, That’s when we connected with a couple more quick fish… The fish seemed to move around through out the day.
All our fish wanted brite colored hairjigs/meat or brite colored jigs/plastics and meat. Verticle jigging and dragging 8′-22′ seemed to be the ticket for us. Water temps started off at 33.5 but ended with 37.9 degrees when we left around 6:30.
We ended the day with a couple nice walleyes and 4 keeper saugers and a handfull of throw backs. We usually don’t keep the bigger fish, but with the price of gas, not knowing what the water levels will do, and the craving for fresh fish, they just had to make the ride home with us.
Just like Dean and many others have said, be carefull down there, watch out for debree/ice chunks.
Around 11:30 or so, they must’ve opened the dam or the ice just busted loose, the ice was so bad, I think a guy could’ve walked across water.
