Pre spawn, post spawn?? i would say she looks like a 10lb fish. Looks to be very healthy. Nice fish

She had to have just spawned… I was catching fish in really shallow water and for some reason moved out and marked some fish in 22 FOW and dropped down and she smacked it.

30″ with some nice girth, she had to be pushing 10 lbs.

I have a 29.75 that was post spawn when I caught her… she weighed 9 lbs. 4 oz… should have been over 10 lbs. but again, post spawn there’s a reason they hammer your bait at that time

A post spawn 30″ fish can be 10# or over…but looking at the head/shoulders of that girl I am not sure… I caught a 31.5″ spawned out girl last year fishing P-4 with Wade Kuehl that had bigger head/shoulders…she barely touched the 11# mark. Its hard to tell how thick she was from that view. She was a gorgeous fish no matter what she weighed!

I think she looks pre spawn, fins look like there in too good of shape. I would think the fish would really look more beat up if it was post spawn, unless it had been a couple weeks after the spawn.

I’m certainly not an expert as I seldom catch eye’s if I can help it…but…

I have weighed a number of POST spawn eyes at the 30 inch mark, they’ve weighed anywhere from just over 9 to 11 pounds. Most of them cut the 10 pound mark.

Personally speaking, if you get out frequently I would put in some more time. However I don’t believe anyone here is going to say that is not a 10 pound fish.

PS One of my first eyes when I stopped fishing for them was a 29″ tube that weighed in at just over 5 pounds.

Very nice fish. Fishing the Mississippi river a lot catching fish over 10#s is a lot more common than catching them over 30″s.

I too think this is a pre spawn fish. Belly does not look concave on the bottom, but difficult to say with the angle it is held. I am guessing it is over 10, but for an accurate replica, you should be getting girth measurements ahead of the dorsal and also behind it. Otherwise the taxidermist can only use a standard mold for a 30″ fish, and then it really isn’t a true replica.

Id say right around the 9 pound mark. Last spring i got a 30.5 inch female that went 7.8 pounds! I was fishing a local contest and a 28 inch fish beat me in weight lol. I didn’t think she was that skinny but i guess she was haha. Nice fish! congrats! You should be just as happy whether or not its 10 pounds because there are a lot of guys who never get a 30 incher!
