Wife’s first pool 4 walleye

This is just the third spring the wife and I fished pool 4 so we’re getting to learn it a little more each time. Last year I decided to give the blades a try and just wasn’t getting the feel of it, and caught nothing on it. This year I decided to buy the proper MLXF rod from Dean and try harder.
Saturday 3/19 was our second trip this year and thus far all I’m catching on the blade is carp – snagging them – so I started getting low on patience. Anyway, late in the day Kathy decided she wanted to try one just for kicks. She had no idea what to do with. It wasn’t long and she caught a 15.5″ ‘eye. 15 minutes later she caught a fat 21.5″ female. I assure you she was rubbing it in good. She was SO excited she couldn’t wait to get back to Everts and tell Dean.
After watching her, and asking Dean more questions, I learned I was working the bait way to aggressively, so now I’m anxious to get back out there and try again.
Here’s a pic of her better one, and my biggest carp which fought like a whale (not pretty but lots of fun).

Not much better than that! I never have a problem being showed up by someone I take out fishing. Blades for sure have a trick to them and they take a little time to adjust to. It’s like every other new thing you try when fishing. Dean is a wealth of information down there so if you are unsure of something, then ask him. Forums are a great resource as well but sometimes you can’t get the feel of it unless you are with someone.

Next time down give a jig and plastics a shot too. Those have been working great this spring.

KATHY…um…Kathy, do you realize that I’ve been trying to boat a fish on blades for 3 years??? In that time I’ve hooked three what I think were walleyes but don’t know for sure because they never made it to the surface before they got off!

Since you did so well not knowing what you were doing, I would suggest you get some time on the water with them. Who knows, once you know what your doing you could be a in the money tourny fisher!!

Might be getting your rear kicked, but as least you are fishin’. That’s better than I’m doing.
