Well like everyone SHOULD do…we made our first stop Evert’s We got a little bit of info from Dean got some bait and headed out to try our luck for the day. We launched out of evert’s at 7:30am and headed up river towards the vermillion.

We started out in 30 Fow and it took about 3.275 minutes before we boated our first fish. It was a short fish but none the less it was a start. We tuned our tactics a little more as the day wore on and by 1pm we were dialed in.

We spent the majority of the day pulling 3 ways with stick baits and did vary well. Concentrating on the 30 fow area we tuned and tested speeds and baits. We were using 6oz dropper weights in the front of the boat and 4oz in the back to get the spacing we needed between the lines to avoid tangles. The tag lines or leaders that we were using were any where from 4 feet to 6 feet long and the speed was VERY critical. We found that the best speed going up river was 0.1-0.3. Once we had that figured out it was game on and the fish were basically jumping in the boat. We took home 12 fish ranging from 15-19 inches.

We caught numerous short fish and the big ones illuded us again but that gives me an excuse to come down next weekend and try it all over again.

Thanks to Dean for the info and at this time I would like to ask every one that reads this post to put everts and dean in your prayers and hope that the water doesn’t rise and flood out the resort. Every one that goes there knows that last fall was hard on the resort due to all the flooding and high water and this spring is shaping up to be the worst in 45 years.

Nice to see you got in on a decent 3-way bite. I figured it was about ready to start turning on. Finding fish & putting all pieces of the puzzle together such as speeds, colors ,lure sizes & styles can be self rewarding. I might have to give it a go tommorrow as it looks to be about the nicest day of the week! Thanks for the report.

Nice job Joe! Must not have had your FW along. Dean would have put you on some big fish.

No she did not come with on this trip but I am hoping that I can get her to come down for some white bass action in a couple weeks. She said that she misses everybody down there and she would like to know if there is anything we can do to help. She has the day off on wednesday and if Dean or anyone else needs help pulling campers out or whatever let us know and we will be down early wed morn. Take care and see you soon.
