I shared a seat Wed with another IDO member Pete & we were greeted with a little bonus multi specie action.A couple low – mid 20″ Pike,2 different carp species, saugers & walleyes. Water temps ranged from 35.5-38.5 deg depending on areas fished & time of day. We caught fish on a slower downstream drag near verticle presentation on a variety of plastics.Fishing in 15′ or less water with 1/4oz jigs using paddle tails, moxies & ringworms all caught fish for us. I really like the action of the moxies! Thinking Pike like them as well because it took about 30 seconds in the first spot to connect to a solid feeling fish for about 2 seconds & that sudden empty feeling missing my jig Moxie combo. I couldnt help but not try a little 3-way action mid-afternoon with cranks to see if it might produce as well. We were almost immeadiately greated with a double header consisting of a Pike & Carp which made for a little fire drill to ensue clearing each others lines. Not quite what we were looking for but those big carp can sure put up a heck of a battle which will definately put your gear to a test! We decided to try these tactics in another area & were greeted with a couple decent Saugers. Speed we caught fish pulling 3-ways was about 1mph.I didnt find any certain color to stand out above the others on any tactic we tried.I think it had more to do with presentation & location. I beleive the bite will be steadily improving with the water temps rising along with having better overall average sized fish continuing to show there presence in more areas. Good luck fishing all!
