Made my maiden voyage today down to everts to see if the old boat had another year in her. After visiting with Mr. Dean and another nice gentlemen in the shop I was pointed into a couple directions to try. Thankfully, after a couple coughs and a loud roar the HyRyder was in full motion and headed towards the dam area. Surprisingly I was able to find a nice little spot that gave up 1 small walleye and 4 real nice saugers and a small pike. After this spot fizzled out I tried a nearby deep hole and hooked into about a 4 lbs catfish which in-turn wrapped around my trolling motor. oh well. Tried a couple more spots with out any luck until I found out my battery didn’t winter as well as I thought. Big Thanks to JOHN with the White Champion boat for giving me a jump and not leaving me stranded. Anyways, I had the water temp at around 35 deg, about 6-8″ of visibility, all my fish came on either a black/chart. fuzzy grub or Blue/red/silver hair jig and minnow. Also noticed quite a few large ice chunks floating around. Good Luck

Sounds like a nice day on the water. If you are like me, one trip to P4 will just result in many more. The more you fish it, the more you figure out.

all I can say is, pay attn: to what info the regulars that fish pool 4 give away on this board, what dean says is usually written in stone and keep go’en back. there is lots of things that effect that part of the river, location, flow, evelation, water clarity and the list goes on ,oh ya plastic, meat, blades ect. location i believe is key + presention, I have spent fishless days on p4 and had really good days in my book every day spent on p4 is learning and a good day.

The thing about this time of year pay attention to every detail. When you catch a decent fish think about what you did different at that moment. Maybe quartering the current different or your jigging action or a thousand other factors. The different between a great day of catching fish and a fish here or there is many times figuring out what you did right to trigger the fish. Maybe I am stating the obvious but it can’t be said too often.
