What do you leadcoremen prefer. Mono or braid as a leader

Had the pleasure in the last few years to fish some leadcore with Jeff Berg, Steve Lamb, and Pat Werner.
Seemed like everybody uses something different for leader. Does it make a difference in any of your results???

I like to use flora-carbon for my leader.i have lost very few lures with it and catch rate is the same as mono and braids.zebra mussels dont cut it up as bad.

I use fireline, I like to dig with the core. Saves me a ton of lures!

    Started using clear
17# XT on the great lakes. Seemed to handle the Zeebs best. Just stuck with it.

Chubs I should have said braided lines/ superlines…powerpro, fireline, spiderwire, but really you do kind of braid the two lines together, also. Similar to puting a leader on your flyfishing line.

I also use Fireline and it has saved many crankbaits over the years.

I bounce back and forth between mono (8lb XT) and Fireline. It’s important to note that if you are using fireline to make sure you have a trolling rod with a soft tip or you are going to rip the hooks out of a lot of fish. I guess that is why I sometimes use mono still, with a long leader, to provide a little more give during that battle.

I’ve never done the lead core thing before but I’m planing on giveing it a try this year. I built myself a 8′ fiberglass med/hvy rod with a moderate tip. would this work good for lead core? Other “Q,” Do you use this method for, pulling live bait rigs, cranks, or bolth?

I use 30# Fireline. Saves tons of cranks.
