Johnny knows best!!!
I suppose you were so concerned about net lacerations and tail fins bleeding that you hand landed your walleyes huh?maybe they need to look at outlawing nets, they seem to be hazardous weapons.I cant believe you didnt blame the rising gas problems and cwd in minnesota on tournament fisherman also I have fished numerous bodies of water from big water to duck sloughs and seen this issue on fish from all water, never realized it was from nets, just thought it was from post-spawn trauma from rubbing in sand and rocks, learn something new everday.
way to hijack a perfectly good intended post, eveybodys entitled to their .002 worth but you forgot your change
Thanks for clarifying my point Brian. The Indian spearing/netting was geared to other bodies of water, which maybe his energy of conservation should be directed to–not pool 4, which is in fine shape. IMHO, the fishery biologists do a great job for the walleye management–their ideas on a fish passage is ANOTHER story(that has more to do with hidden agendas and is too long a story to deal with here).
Redneck, your absolutely right–this is a sure sign of spring!!!!!!
Thanks for opening that can-o-worms Doc

There is a misconstrued ideal that the DNR is there to protect nature. Their actual job is to promote the use of natural resources and appropriate funds for their use not their conservation!
That’s funny I always thought they were referred to as CONSERVATION Officers, isn’t that what it reads on their badge ? I have never seen a Natural Resource Promotional Enjoyment Officer, I will have to ask the next Conservation Officer I talk to about this

Almost every walleye i caught last year over 26 inches looked like it had been netted a thousand times and bashed across the lake at 55 mph a dozen times. But i guess some people need to make themselves feel like a MAN.
I’m going out on a limb and guessing that you used a net to get those big 26″ fish into your boat, am I wrong for assuming so ? If I am not wrong then you have contributed a few tail rips yourself unless you use a cradle style net. See the main reason the tails of those big walleye are so tore up is not actually from riding in live wells (not that I would personally be able to tell the difference between a fish that has been in a live well or not) but from the holes in most fishing nets. The holes are too big and the material used on most fishing nets rips those precious tails right apart. Truth be told if you were to ever keep a trophy walleye you wouldn’t want to use a regular net to get her into the boat just because you would tear her pretty tail apart and that just wouldn’t look good on the wall. On a positive note for all those beat up fish it’s good to see them being released back into the system to bite on your or someone’s line someday
Now for the fishing tournaments just to feel like a man part, well….that comment in itself just makes me laugh. Like there’s no camaraderie or enjoyment in fishing tournaments. I am curious about the women who enjoy and fish tournaments, does fishing tournaments make them feel like a MAN as well?
To the topic Pool 4 will flood, it does every year and only Mother Nature can dictate the levels .
Seems to me cabin fever has set in, get out and enjoy our Natural Resources and get some fishing in, you’ll be glad you did
I heartily concur!! Are a few small saugers out of the scour hole really worth it?? Quality trumps quantity every time!!
I’m not sure about you, but I believe most tournament anglers or avid fisher people have little or no interest in keeping any of these big females, only catching for sport.
