Switching my hooks out from the Gamakatsu octopus hooks to a aberdeen/live bait hook on all my 3 way rigs…curious on what I should look to run for hook sizes with that style shank? Assume #2?

I have been using the #4 & #2 Aberdeen’s on most of my live bait rigs for the past few years for walleye. I switched from the octopus style and seemed to get more and better hook-ups. Of course the trade-off is that these hooks are not as strong but I have not lost any to the Aberdeen’s bending out – but then again I have not caught anything real large either

#2 seems the bigger gap allows better hook ups. I’ve never had a problem.

    Erick,

I use a mostly 1/0 and a 2/0 in this style of hook for both crawlers and leeches. These two sizes have a bigger hook gap and seems to give me a better hook up ratio.
