Hey guys, this will be my last report for awhile, but here’s the update on pool 4.

The bite is ok during the day. Fish come few and far between but you catch one here and there. What I was most surprised about was how deep they were. Our fish both Friday and Saturday came out of 28-30ft. Plastics and hair both put fish in the boat with milk white being out best color both days.
Once it started to get dark however, it was the same old winter fishing we love so much. Find you favorite pitching spot and give ’em heck. No big fish in the 2 days I was down there but there were plenty of eaters to fill the time after dark. The biggest fish was a 22″ eye that fell to a white blade bait. Blades hair and plastics all caught fish pitching and as long as it was a natural color it didn’t seem to matter what it was. Moxies did however outproduce the other plastics 2 to 1. The key to catching these fish was fish slow! Then slow it down some more. overall it was a fun couple of days, a lot of people were leaving before it got dark. The temp actually rises after dark and so does the fishing so don’t hesitate to bring a couple lights and spend an extra half hour.

Thanks for the report. If it wasn’t so far from home, I’d be there for a mid-winter open-water fix.

The moxies were designed to excel at this time of year when water temps are at their lowest and the fish want everything moving at a crawl. The changes to the tail allow for a lot of subtle body and tail action at a very slow speed which should be ‘just what the Dr. ordered’ for midwinter fish. Most other plastics require the bait to be moved much faster to get anywhere near as much tail movement and that’s just not going to fly with lethargic mid-winter walleyes.

The really cool part of the tail design is once you start to move the bait a little faster then the tail starts to kick like a mule giving off a lot of vibration and pronounced movement which should trigger fish when they get more active or when the water clarity falls off later in the spring.

I believe that’s called “best of both worlds.”

They are my favorite bait that I have yet to catch a fish on The action is great and I know they will catch fish it is just a matter of time until I stumble into a bite. I am guessing when the dragging bite takes off this Spring—if it does—-that the Moxies will be a real killer with the action they have. By the way Son—the boat won’t be the same without you this year

Sure be nice to see a good ice report. Nobody seems to be talking about it much this year.
