Well the ramp is open so I decided to give it a try this morning . But the excitement quickly died in dealing with the wind, current, and ice . There were three other boats out besides us who faired equally well. We ended up with 3 sauger and 1 30″ fat northern . We vertical jigged on both sides of the channel, in the flats, and the deep water. One thing we did find to be consistent was the snags .

Have you guys been to Trempeauleau lately. I will be down there tomorrow thru Saturday. Leaving sometime Sat. Will probably fish there a portion of the time and take one trip to Alma just for grins and giggles.

I will be riding in a black/gray Lund Pro-V with a 75 hp Honda tiller. There will be two others in the boat. Two of us will be wearing black nylon jackets. We will start by the dam on the lock side. Then we will head downstream to fish the Richmond Island area and some of those wingdams between the two.

I thought we were going to be down there Thursday thru and leave Sunday, but now it only be Thursday night and Friday.

    What will you riding in?

A friend of mine fished Tremplo yesterday. He said it was very slow. They ended up catching a few sauger in the 16″ range. It should be picking up anytime. Good luck and let us know how you did.

Oh and don’t be too sure that you will be the only one not catching. I only get down there twice a year and I hope that changes someday, but that doesn’t give a guy a lot of time to get practiced!!! Hopefully we have been learning well over the past couple of years and we are about to break loose!!! It will be our most concerted plastics attempt since learning about Holst and the rest of you fishing with those crazy plastic things. LOL

Last weekend we fished a more conventional system in the northland. Yep, this pic is one of four fish that we caught fishing Chequemagon Bay in three days!!! Last year we caught 18 of these beauties, several northern, 5 walleyes and some panfish. Amazing from one year to the next. The bay is probably two weeks behind last season up here.

I checked out the boat landing and guys were saying that they were here, but what was biting was small. I got to the river about the time the heavy fog rolled in and at least 6 boats left at the same time.

Just curious to see if you made it up to the Trempealeau area this weekend. We fished on Friday and probably should have done well, but didn’t. See Slop, I told you you wouldn’t be the only one without any fish. I enclose a pic of a tremendous sauger caught on a ringworm, I haven’t given up on ringies yet. The first fish in the boat was worth a total of ten bucks and was a fish of same species and size. It was taken on a whistler jig with a minnow. We saw some other boats catching, but not at a high rate of speed. We spent a great deal of time exploring as we really are still getting to know the area. Stayed away from bumper boats on the west side of the channel. Both were caught of the lock side of the river. Obviously those other fish we saw were taken on our side of the river but were deeper. Both of our fish came in the 16′ – 22′ range. The fish taken on the ringie was 3/8 ounce chartruese jighead with a purple and white tail. We were hearing that Genoa was still kicking out great numbers of fish and that purple twisters were the hot bait.

Fished Genoa Saturday afternoon with a few smaller saugers caught. I didn’t see a whole lot of action either out of anyone else. One guy caught a real nice northern(at least 15lb) while jigging. There were a few guys that anchored up and they seemed to do a little better but were getting a few dirty looks too. Tough weather day, the wind blew all afternoon. Everyone keeps telling me that April is the month; I hope so. Time to give Tremp. a shot this weekend.
