open water itch

With weather like today it’s really giving me the itch to get into the boat. I have not even been ice fishing yet this year but would rather spend a few hours floating around the river.

If we get a day like this next week I might just have to make the run up to see Dean and do some boating

here’s hoping for a nice day next week – – it’s just too far to go for me if the roads are bad.

Good luck to those of you who are able to get out.

    Merry Christmas!

Everyone I talked to today said the same thing… we should be out in the boat! Nobody I know made it though. Ice fishing is taking off and it is hard to make plans when you only get one warm day then we’re back into the deep freeze. Unfortunately the temps next week don’t look at that promising for an open water reprieve.

FWIW… The vertical jig/plastic Sauger bite is really hot right now at Pool 4… Jason Halfen and friends got a 3 man limit of dandies in a couple hours yesterday…

Was down last Saturday and it was a great vertical bite. I’m heading down mid week again if all works out with family coming and going. It was windy and cold but line your body with hand warmers and you wont even notice because you will be catching so many fish

Give me a break this is my favorite time of year. I wish it would quit snowing, blow like it has never blown before to get the snow off the ice and have a day like today everyday to go out and do a ton of hole hoping. It would be nice, but my dad told me ounce to sh*t in one hand and wish in the other and let him know which one fills up the fastest!

It’s nice to have friends that can catch fish.

I’ll be counting on one tomorrow!

I’ll be looking for a guy with a pink top for directions to the fish!

I got the wrong impression from the title….I thought for sure some one else broke out in hives just thinking about the ice leaving

Thanks all, maybe it’s just because the hunting and kids sports have kept me from fishing for a while now. I am going to try to get the boat out next week if I can. I feel a little better since the boat is in a heated garage but the nearly 200 mile round trip to Everts means I have to keep an eye to the sky – I get selective on the days I take the boat out in the winter.

Thanks for the current reports too and sorry Bret I don’t mean to give you that kind of scare. One of these days I’ll have to head down your way and give it a try.

    Good luck

Yup, now that I have finally gotten over “whitetail fever”, time to get back to serious matters and hit the river!

Guys, just found this forum and looks like it will be a wealth of knowledge. I actually on the IL border in southeastern IL. Duck hunting has ended down here for me (all the ducks have went south)If anyone wants to come down for some Kinkaid Lake crappie/walleye and some Miss. River walleye let me know. I fish all the time in the winter and catch a lot of nice crappie in Kinkaid and have a great spot off the Mississippi River that I can slay the walleye. My friends don’t like to fish until it hits the 50 degree mark.

I don’t like to fish after it hits the 50° mark. But I do it anyway.

Not being able or wanting to fish for the next 3 months doesnt sound too appealing. Time to find some new friends. Welcome to your first post & IDO.
