Confession time folks, who else got skunked on pool 2 yesterday? Hidden falls was closed so we launched out of 494. I’m a river rookie but can usually pick up something. Not yesterday, the only action was we almost had a big carp grace our presence. It was either that or a 30″ walleye and I’m going with carp. I thought I was snagged and by the time I realized my line was coming in faster than I was moving the boat there was a flash, a tail wiggle and gone.

So who was in the other boats out there and any luck? I’d be interested in comparing notes either privately or here, not that I can help much besides what not to do.

Fisherman are a bit like gamblers…you only hear about the casino trips where they win money.

Seriously though…I wasn’t one of those boats…I heard the bite had been tough on Saturday and there was a lot of floating ice. Decided to throw in the towel for the year and start pulling out batteries.

Welcome D, hurry close the door before this guy named BK gets in! I stopped in the lot down there, almost ran home and back to join you guys, other than the occasional ice berg it looked like a nice day. What were you using and where? Sometimes if things are slow up top of the pool, things are better down on the wing damns. Heck, don’t listen to me, I never catch anything anyway. Again, welcome!

Thanks Czech. There were a few icebergs. I want to upgrade the trolling motor and before yesterday wasn’t exactly seeing the value of the larger shaft the terrova offers. Now I can see how the ice could bust it off if a guy isn’t careful.

We didn’t stray too far north of 494. We pitched ringworms and paddletails to the wing dams, did the same to the rip rap on the west side north of 494, tried vertical jigging the same places, and even broke out the trolling rods to 3 way F-9’s across the tips of the wing dams. There wasn’t much on the sonar except we found a large pod of baitfish where we had the one fish on. Tried anywhere from 5-20 FOW. Fished just under 3 hours so maybe just didn’t have time to pattern something, hence the reason for asking anywhere here who did.

Skunked Saturday night as well. Way to many ice bergs to really fish.
