Hit pool 14 on Thursday morning with limited success. Caught a nice 19inch eye pitching rocks down from the dam early. The current is still pretty strong in the areas we were familiar with and have had luck in the past.

We caught a few dink saugers by the dam dragging and jigging plastics. We saw others catch a few on minnows but unfortunately if you want to use minnows in Clinton, IA you better not plan on picking them up when you get there. According to the locals the closet place you can get minnows on a Thursday is Red Wing.

We ended the day back down river pitching rocks and landing a 18lb flathead that gave my fishing partner quite a fight.

Of course I was joking about picking them up in Red Wing. However I was not joking about not being able to get minnows. Not only does the closest bait shop not open until 8 a.m. but they were also out of minnows.

R&R was supposed to have minnows by thurs. if not Todd’s Bait & Tackle 8 miles north of Clinton in Thomson Illinois has plenty.

    Well I was right.It was cold and windy.Caught a total of 6 walleye.Here are the 2 biggest. A 22 1/2″ and a 21″.The rest were 15″ to 18″.Far from a killer day but still fun.All were caught jigging.

I hit pool 14 for a few hours on Monday and found the fish tight to shore and shallow. No pics as I was alone and short on time, but I had two in the 24-25″ range, five legals and a few shorts. All in all a pretty good day. My best bite came pulling three ways Dubuque rigged with a stick bait and ringy on the dropper. Caught fish on both. It was hard to believe the fish where holding in as much current as they where, and running over them in 5′ and less with my T-8 did not bother them in the least. They where on the feed in a big way!

Ditto that the fish are biting. The river is dropping slowly and the fishing is getting better with every inch. Was able to get out for a few minutes last night and had this girl hit the 1 oz jig like a Bears linebacker on a certain No. 4 who wears purple. Was fishing out of the hunting boat, so the picture isn’t the prettiest.

they were shallow in strong current? intersting. on p16 im not seeing a whole lot coming out of their normal haunts in sylvan slough and everyone is saying there is no current in there right now.

will probably look elsewhere this weekend. thanks for the info.

    hnd,
The key seemed to be finding a little bit of a break in the current. Althugh strong, it was less than the surrounding area.

Tell him the truth Trigger. You had the crank phone in the boat.
