I hate it when guys anchor in the middle of a popular drift, but I’ve found that anchoring to cast can be, well, really good! But I’ve had trouble getting a good hold with my current anchor and want to upgrade. I’ve got a 17′ Tuffy deep-v, and I want to buy an anchor that is overkill enough to where I just don’t have to worry about it. What do you guys with the really big boats use? Does a 30# river anchor hold a 20′ Ranger?? Thanks!

    John23,

Welcome to the site. There is a discussion regarding anchors on the outdoor gear forum. A lot of great information is exchanged on the site all you have to do is ask the question. Hope this helps. anchors

Thanks! I tend to only check the one forum, and I didn’t even think to look elsewhere!

Hello I have a 17 ft. Pro V Lund and use a 15 lbs. anchor (sea anchor type) The most important part of the combo is what you have tied to the anchor.Don’t tie directly to the anchor with your rope.Use about 5 ft. to 8 ft. of heavy chain AND I MEAN HEAVY TYPE CHAIN.What this does for you is to put less direct pull on the anchor as the wind and waves push you around. This should easily take care of any trouble you are having. Steve

I have a Lund 1800 Fisherman with walk thru windshield. I use a Digger anchor w/o a chain. It holds very well. Pretty good in the rivers because is pops loose when you pull over it. If it fouls with debris, rocks etc. you stand a good chance to get it out. One key to anchoring is to bring lots of anchor rope. A rule of thumb is to let out enough line equal to 3 times the depth you are in.

The Digger stores easily and holds well. I’ve been on Pool 2 in strong current and strong winds and the anchor holds.

I have a 17 ProV and use a 18lb claw type anchor 2-3 feet of chain and can not always hold in the wind or current. Is yours a flat blade that seems to dig in to the bottom?

Also I meet again the same husband and 4th wife at another motel one night while ice fishing out of town that I was telling you about at the GTG in Jan. He is still having wife trouble.

Personal opinoin I like the RICTOR ANCHORS I do Know that most boat dealers do carry them. I own a tourney Pro Alumacraft and I can hold in the gates or on the flats with this anchor.
