I know this isn’t about fishing but the spring turkey permits are out. Go to the dnr home page click spring turkey, then put your drivers licence number in the box click it and it will tell you. I got picked last year and this year. Good luck to those choosen. Jim

Thanks for the Spring Turkey Information link. I’m currious on how often people are getting drawn each year … if you care to share, what season and zone did you put in for that you were drawn two years in a row? I find that the toughest part of Turkey hunting is leaving the water in the spring.
Such problems!
Good Hunting,
ZimFebruary 12, 2002 at 8:36 pm #237155Last spring 2001 we had not been picked in 3 years. So we put in for the first season and got picked. First day I had them flying out of trees on the way in, set up quick and started calling. By 7:30 I was done for the season with a 23 lb tom my first. This year we went for may 18 – 22 trying to work in hunting during walleye opener or as close as I could with being on call for work. I was really surprised that I got picked. You get picked about every 2 years. It just depends on how many permits are allowed for the zone and how many people try for that zone. Its great to be out there and if you get a bird thats a bonus. GOOD LUCK Jim
February 12, 2002 at 8:43 pm #237156Don’t you get a tag every season? Is this Minnesota? In WI I have not heard of anyone never getting a tag. Alot of times people get two. Just curious.
Thanks,
BearFebruary 13, 2002 at 2:34 am #237188Its like the lottery, If your drawn you go. My co-worker has not been picked for 2 years and I don’t think he got picked this year. Same with the fall hunt but alot more people get drawn to thin out the numbers. Its 11 to 13 eggs per hen and once they are like 4 mths. old there only predator is man. But its alot of fun to out smart them. Jim
February 13, 2002 at 1:39 pm #237208Don’t forget Eagles on that list of predators. I’ve got a decoy that a couple of years back just after sunrise an eagle came down on. I wish I would have had it on video. I bet that eagle didn’t know what to think hitting what he thought was breakfast and only getting foam stuffed rubber. It blew my cover but made my season and the talons left just small holes in the decoy. Steve
February 13, 2002 at 7:52 pm #237226Got a tag last year. Of course, like expected, none this year. I guess I’ll just have to make plans to be on the water instead now. Win-Win….. either way.
Maybe next year!yellowlabPosts: 11February 13, 2002 at 9:54 pm #237234It is totally dependent on what season you apply for and what zone. I always do zone 349 for the first season (I need them as dumb as possible) it used to be every other year but with the increasing popularity now it has gone to every three. Thankfully this was my year to get drawn.
You can always pick up the leftover later season tags and it does not affect your preference for getting drawn.February 13, 2002 at 11:26 pm #237239One of my friends was going to get an open permit. Some how found a way on the comp. to see how many were left for may 18-22 for 349 and they were gone. I saw a hunting show where a doe came in and kicked at a turkey decoy looked pretty cool
February 14, 2002 at 3:57 am #237256Applied for zone 347 season 3 again but didnt get drawn. Oh well got my first bird last year my first year out. Was out opening morning and called a jake in and got busted right away at legal so i kept callin and 10 minutes later called a 24 pound 10 inch beard tom in and took him at 35 yards and was home by 6 55 and went to the river for the rest of the day and caught a limit of white bass from shore walleye fishing in the flooded waters since we couldnt boat then safley yet. What a day man i wsh they could all be like them. By the way did someone say getting the leftover tags doesnt affect your preference points? Man i love calling those gobblers in do it all the time for the hell of it over by forestville state park man are they beautiful. Caled in two birds for two buddies of mine also last year. Ma they are a blast when they come in full strut.
