Mike and I hit P2 this morning and things were slow for us until we got on a nice run towards the end of the morning. Nice to see Rootski, Micah, and Jason this morning as well.

Gary and I got on the water before 7AM and we hadn’t gone 20 feet on our first trolling run when Gary stuck a 27 inch Walleye, his personal best. We were pretty pumped up and thought we were in for a great day . 4 hours and a lot of work later all we had to show for our efforts were a few Sheephead. Once again, if you pick the wrong spots, all you get is Sheephead

Nice to see Joel, Mike, and Jason P out there today.

I was out by 6AM and got four fish off my first spot….then nothing for the rest of the morning. Was nice to get out early and saw plenty of wildlife. Seen these fawns with their mom and lots of eagles. Other animals I saw included Joel, Mike, Gary, Rootski, and Micah. Mike brought donuts,,,but he ate mine before he got to the landing.

    Its good to have family.

If you don’t mind the typical Pool 2 size, the smallies are pretty active for a change of pace. The kids and I had fun watching them chase topwaters this morning. Only briefly chucked cranks, but did connect on two smaller walleyes.

Water is still fairly murky, but should be on a slow, steady fall.

I did connect with one nice smallie. And I think I saw you guys in a red Lund down around Newport?

That was probably us. Was I strangling my daughter?

I like taking the kids fishing… but the chaos…

Thanks Joel. I headed back up to that spot a putzed around for another hour or 2. Missed a few fish casting cranks and jigs. Only managed one more walleye. The sun started poking threw about 130 so I got out of there.

That weather was fantastic this morning. Think I even felt a slight chill a time or 2. What a relief after the temps of the last few weeks. IT was surprising to see the water temps had dropped about 4 degrees. Does this mean early fall?

It was great seeing all of you guys out on the river this morning. Sorry about the donuts Jason. You can imagine they have a pretty short life span in my truck.

Way to go on the 27″er Gary and Steve.

Joel and I did get into a nice school of active fish late morning. Long line trolling red Flicker shads over rocks was the trick. We got several quality fish like the ones in the photos Joel posted. Also had a fair number of mid sized fish to make this a short lived but very fun bite.

Other than that the morning was pretty uneventful for us.

Those photos are enough motivation for me. I’m hitting the water tomorrow!

    Nice fish Mike.

nice to see a few of you out there on saturday.
i have been socked in with lots of projects this summer and not a lot of fishing unfortunately. first time out in a while and ran the boat out of gas on our way to the airport. another reason why i should fix that gas gauge on my boat. we floated from the swing bridge back to the launch stopping and anchoring on a few dams and managed a few fish on cranks for my first time guests on P2.
what a dolt! invite people out and run the boat out of gas. at least I went up stream instead of down right.
    looking forward to fall.
