I went trolling on upper Pool 2 from about 8:30 to 11:00 this morning and just killed the walters (not literally). But the fish were only 10-14 inches long with a couple around 16. It still was fun to get out and catch them anyway! Firetiger bomber 5A in 6-10 feet trolling rocky stretches. I also got one 15″ smallie and a decent whitey.

That sounds pretty much like fishing the Illinois River at Spring Valley. Some days you can catch 100 plus fish in the 13″to 14″ range. Just think, in a couple of years they are going to be some nice fish.

Pool 2 is all catch and release so most should avoid the hot grease release.

I saw some caught yesterday that were heading for the “hot grease release.” I almost said something to the guy; but he was an old pathetic bum in the woods type throwing by hand, fishing line, weight and a worm. And I couldn’t see for sure what he was putting on his stringer; so I let it go. Heck! A couple more years of ***** and I might be living in the woods too.

Ive always known you where destined to be “living in a van down by the river” Joel.

Thanks for the report. Been wondering if they where biting up that way but just hadn’t had the time to try it.

That wasn’t me! But I think it might have been the nutball we saw taking a bath in the river last March

I think it would be worthwhile to try it. The action was steady and I have pulled some nice sized fish out of that stretch in the past.

Janel caught a 27.5″ walleye on P2 last Sunday…her personal best (for now).

She won’t let me post the pic though.
