with the high water of late, is anyone fishing pool 9? thinking of getting the boat wet, and was just wondering out loud if it’s even worth going. i would assume the sloughs would be about the only decent bet. any thoughts?

High water, but it is the cleanest I have ever seen the river in mid summer. The water looks like an iron lake in Canada, a little red stain. Fishing is tough.

Got gored yesterday. Right palm, just below the thumb. Bout 6 miles deep. Jigging crawlers in running sloughs. Wasn’t the 12 to 20 inch walleye that got me. It was a stinking 7 inch sauger. Biting deer fly were a nuisance but when you’re pulling two to three fish on each drift over a seam you quickly learn to live with your own stupidity for leaving the bug spray behind. After I seemingly exhausted the willing walleye and couldn’t keep the drum off the line ~ I downshifted and fished a submerged rock line off the main channel for some smallies. Only caught three in 5 passes. Sorry ~ I don’t take many pictures when the water is as warm as it is and the fish are going back in.

I will admit ~ I was quite surprised how well the bite was given the unstability of the weather pattern as of late. Weeds are a problem in areas but manageable.
