Well I don’t want to speak too soon, BUT things may be starting to turn around. I talked to quite a few people that were out today and there were quite a few people catching 40-50-60 fish again. The size still remains small for the most part, but it is a start maybe. A couple of boats actually caught 50+ WALLEYE, not sauger. That’s a good sign, as it has been almost exclusively sauger all winter. Hopefully thats a sign of better days coming soon!! I know these people and they do know the difference b/w sauger and walleye in case you’re skeptical. Today was actually a great day for catfish too. Many boats were catching channels and flatheads. The flatheads were actually biting too. I know there is a big controversy over snagged vs biting flatheads in the wintertime, but I do trust the people that reported this as well. Maybe i’m too gullable (sp?) but anyways some people caught “a lot” of catfish today.

It looks like just when the walleye are starting to bite, we’re gonna get dumped on with snow! Oh well. So long story short……Not many keeper fish being caught yet, but A LOT more walleye and a lot more fish overall than in the previous weeks. Maybe, just maybe the 15-18 inchers will start biting again. Thanks and good luck.

Just wondering what they were tossing at the fish. Hope to see you this week.

The guy that had the 50 walleye was using a “one-eye” he said. Said it didn’t matter if he casted it or jigged it, it was one right after the other……Today I talked to a boat that fished the same area and only caught 2 fish……….who knows?

Other people were getting them on the regular jig n minnow and 3-ways. I think the little ones are hitting anything, but the keeper/legal fish still seem to have lockjaw!

I think the weather forecast kept people away today…..too bad cuz it is beautiful out as of now, 2:20. I think this storm got blown out of proportion……….for now anyway. Good Luck.

ya, similar in style to a “swedish pimple” There are a few varieties out there. I just got some here. They’re just another jgging lure. Work great through the ice or open water.

I would not say the one eye is “just” a spoon…. Ive tried a lot of jiggin spoons on the river… and the one eye is the best Ive found by far……

it was deadly this fall on the upper croix…… and on pool 2 it was great also…. on pool 4 I did better with ring worms… but the one eye was the next best thing I found…….. just my experience from this falls trips…… certainly not conclusive… but very promising….. Ive tried many jigging spoons with mostly poor results…. this ONE “eye” just plain kicked fin….

Steve, one day a few weeks ago I talked to you down at Hay creek, the fishing was slow for decent fish but when we switched to one eyes we started catching more sauger we could eat. Wound up with 15 or 16, one eyes saved the day! Hutch makes the best ones I’ve tried…….Good luck!….B
