What does everyone think of having a fishing report on pool 5. I think there should be one cause there is a lot of people who fish it. Please add any comments.

I haven’t fished pool 5 yet but would like to get on it some this year. I posted a while back about taking a road trip that way just to check out the area. It seems like if I remember correctly James said someone would be posting around the March time frame. I may be wrong on this and I didn’t try looking it up for very long.So where do you usually fish at on pool 5, and where do you normally launch?

I now know where a couple of the launches are. Have you been out lately? I spoke to some folks during my road trip that were launching at Belveder? They were going bluegill fishing.Do they usually get those on the open water or were they headed somewhere to get on the ice? Steve

Those of us behind the scenes here with FTR think its a great idea and we’ve been in contact pretty regular lately with a couple qualified individuals about doing just that…. supplying regular reports for the site. At this point it looks like the only hold-up is just waiting out the rest of the winter before you start to see a consistent flow of info through the site.

I would like to hear from those that fish pool 5. How many fish that area regularly and would take advantage of a pool 5 report?

Hey James, Around how many people do u have that are gonna do reports on pool 5. Cause me my dad an my 2 brothers are usually all out on pool 5 every weekend and in about 3 more weeks so i could have a wide ranged report on different locations of the pool. i will be fishing almost everyday until May. I live on the bluff just above alma so its only about a 10min drive for me to the ramp.

    thanks

    Hi Flick

I just sent you a PM. I think you know the group quite well that will be coming on-board to work with us. In fact, you might find the connection between this group and yourself quite humurous after this discussion as I think you know them, shall we say, like brothers!

So where do you usually head to. Do you generally fish below the dam in Alma? Or downstream a mile or two. What do you usually use to snap some walleye’s. When I was in the bait store I was checking everything out and it looked like alot of of larger hair jigs on the wall so I’m guessing that must be one of the favorites for that piece of water.Would like to get out with you sometime if you have an open seat as I don’t know that area at all. I’d be willing to foot the gas and bait bill and bring along the refreshments. I’m from a little north of Durand.

    hey leineman

i fish all over. i fish mainly below the dam in Alma all the way down to bufflalo city. But i do have quite a few hot spots above the dam too. When you live so close to the water you really get to know the area better then everyone else. The only people i have to worry about beatin me to the spot is my dad or brothers. send me a Pm on going fishin with me sometime. a favorite on pool 5 is killer jigs. unlike most jigs they cut the current different and the walleyes like what they see in them. but i have never bought one i make them myself.

    Hey leineman

Hey I am Fireflick, Flick is younger brother, I am always looking for someone to go with also. I live in Mondovi, but raised in Alma also. I put almost 70 days on the river last year and can say it was the best year ever, even with the flood. If I go and can’t find anyone i can let you know. Just to let you know my boat is a little faster thtn Flick’s so we can get to the good spots before him.HA Ha.lol.

Hey Flicks, Thanks for the reply’s. What kind of boats do you both own? I have a Alumacraft Trophy 170. So it’s not that I can’t get on the water it’s just nice to go with someone that has been on the water before.I’m not looking for any ones spots rather spots that I should stay away from. It’s still alot more fun to meet up with new fishermen and check out some other spots. It really looks like some nice water between say Nelson and Buffalo City. Anytime you know ahead that you are going out and want someone to tag along with send me a pm.

    hey leinieman,

I have a 2001 alumacraft 166 with a 40hp mercury. Not the biggest but fits me just perfect. I am going tomorrow but I promised my 4 year old that it would be his turn to go. His picture was on the site about a month ago when he caught his first solo fish. I have a maroon f250 if you see it at the landing I am out there with my boy. Maybe I will have a descent report for tomorrow for everyone.

Flat bottoms are nice rigs for the river for sure. I have a 12 footer that I use on the Chippewa. It’s also great for those carry in spots. It’s really light. I think it was made from beer cans or something.I now have my brother in laws boat-14 foot semi-flat bottom that I replaced wiring, both hubs and wheels on the trailer.I think he got tired of looking at it in his backyard and I want to try that out in the Chippewa as well. The 12 footer justs sits so close to the water it’s a bit scary at times.

yeah, the flick brothers and dad are a good combo to go with out below alma. They all go out enough to know what is going on. My buddy and I are out pretty much the same as they are. you could tag along with, but boat will usually be full, whether i am in the old flat bottom with just my buddy and the 15 horse 4 stroke merc, or if dad is nice and lets me take out the 2001 crestliner fish hawk 1750 with a 115 horse merc on it which will pretty much smoke the other two at about 64 mph. but if the flicks are full pm me sometime and i might be open, especially on tuesdays and thursdays i don’t have college on those days, plus i live in nelson so easy to meet up. Killer jigs are big fav’s of the flicks, but fireball’s also produce, but killer’s bring out the bigger boys

Hey Guys, Ithink a report on pool 5 would be great. Fireflick would be a good start. Killer jigs are great but I have out fished the Flicks using fire balls inside tube jigs. Figure me out yet?

yeah maybe you have outfished with fireballs once or twice…but 90% of the time killers put more in the boat. I also agree with larsonlawyers killers also bring in the hogs. I have used fireballs too an it seems you never catch fish over 20″ with them.

YEah for a kid that is prety cocky good thing his dad buys him everything and he doesn’t have to pay for a thing at all, right flick? oh that is right you did have a job for like 2 months once, paying for your own crap is hard enough, my 15 fourstroke suits mejust fine, caught me more than enough walleyes last year and my biggest one at that at 29 and a half inches

YEah thanx cpc, although i rarely get to take it, not many dads let their kids take THEIR 16,000+ boat out with their buddies whenever they want, so i am greatly appreciated to get it whenever i can. I am making a trip to canada this year in the beginning of june so hopefully he is really nice then and lets me take it there

oh yeah FLick one more thing, i wouldn’t say better fisherman either, considering there were several times i remember last year us coming in with a limit and you just catching a couple big ones, well i would rather catch my abundance of fish and run into a big one now and then, than just go for big ones all the time and end up catching just a few fish I think rick and I both seprately pretty much beat you on walleyes last year

so y is ur name carp slayer,, should b sheephead slayer……lol,,, well i took up on ur spot here an hr ago on my break and it paid off… i used that dare devil that u were talking about and i was catching big blue gills instead of sheepheads,, i was quite dissapointed……man i hooked into this padle fish,, it took all of my line out and snapped the line,, it had to be atleast 2 pounds or so….[censored] anyone catch those walleyes, try catching those paddle fish,,, now thats a challenge,, i have only managed to land 3 in the last 10 yrs of fishing…..i saw that ole sydney out by that green bowey that carp slayer was talking about,,,, he said that the sunfish moved out away from the bowey because of this low pressure system thatis moving in… he said that he has been catching those blue gills on stink bait so give that a try and c how it works,, he sais that it only works in the cold months because if u use them in the summer the catfish get to it before anything….o yea he said that u needed to use a steel leader ot those 10 inch bluegills will bite the line…. well i have to get to work,.,. i hope that this info is helpful to u all..

thanx for the gay info whoever you are. Well i was just out from 1225 until well now, which is 3:55. Managed to catch some fish. Good sign on the water is that some of the shad are starting to die out. Many of them are up on top of the water. The water temp is starting to rise. I ended up catchin a couple up by the damn in some shallower water, but most fish came from the deeps. Nothing really sizable yet. One fish was 15 2 more in the 13-14 range other than that, i questioned which one was the bait and which one was the fish, but they are starting to bite so that is a good sign.
