I will be fishing pool 2 for the first time this week trying for walleyes and want to have some nice rigs setup.

What line for jigging, I usually use 4 but should I step to 6 with the larger fish?

I have plenty of different jigs to try but what are paddletails? (swimbaits?)

hairjigs? Are they just larger version of the crappie jigs where you add a worm/minnow?

Thanks, I hope to see some of you out there. I live nearby but usually hit the lakes.

You will get some different opinions on line; but I almost exclusively use braid 10/2 or 14/6. This time of the year casting and trolling crankbaits like shadraps, bombers, flickershads is a good way to go; but plastics, hair, even blades ill work too. And crawlers aren’t a bad thing to have in the boat. Good luck!

I agree with everything Drewsdad says. Find some fishy spots with current seams/breaks. Pool 2 can be gracious or stingy.
    Good luck.

6 or 8# mono for jigging. I like 8 as it helps with getting a few more lures back from the snags. Or like Joel said about using the hard lines.

Hair jigs are like Flu flu’s just larger. 3/16 to 1/4 is what I usually use for pitching. The same should work for vertical jigging depending on how deep you are fishing.

I dont tip the hair jigs or jig/plastics with any meat. I believe the Griz’s main stay is vertical jigging a jig and fat heads on pool 2. There is many ways to catch a fish down there.

IF you are going to vertical jig try looking for current on one of the many rocks shorelines. Work I would say any where from 5 to 15′ of water.

    Good luck.

Casting cranks to wingdams and pitching live bait worked just fine today. Nothin huge today…just lots of 20″ fish…and lots of cats. Didn’t try hair. Didn’t try trolling. Thought I passed drewsdad on the way out of the LL parking lot at 1230..

This time of year, 8# minimum. Something like Berkely Sensation. I’m mostly using 10-14# floro on a casting reel for most of my jig/plastic and crank casting. I don’t use braid much, but do have a couple reels spooled up with Power Pro in 2/10. I just like the slower sink rate on the heavy floro this time of year. Good luck!

Hey Jon! That slower sink rate is something to consider. With the light braid I’m using I have to go to beefier plastics like 5″ Kalins or paddletails to get a slower drop.
I pitch and troll cranks so much during the summer that I honestly haven’t experimented with the plastics that much this time of year. I might have to put on a mono spool and experiment with that next time I’m sitting on a wing dam.
