Pepin Weekend thoughts

Headed down to Pepin tonight for the weekend. Any thoughts or suggestions on techniques, baits, depths or best times? I’m prepared to pull cranks, rig, drag jigs whatever. Would be good to have some depths to start with, best cranks/colors and whether minnows, leeches or crawlers are hot now.

Any help is appreciated – thanks!

A little birdie told me that they’re catching some nice fish today on leadcore and #5 crankbaits. My dad is out, and they have a 27″ and a 25″ plus a bunch of nice eaters. After the sun’s been up for a few hours focus in 17-22′ of water pulling lead near the bottom.

With the busy weekend, boat pressure will typically move the depths a bit, dont be afraid to go shallow or a bit deeper than what the masses are doing. Leeches this week seem to have a favorable edge over crawlers for livebaiting.Have a great trip!

Are you talking about using leeches hanging off of jigs then?

Did real well this weekend on Pepin. Thanks for all the help! Dragged jigs, Drifted jigs, pulled a few cranks and played some bumper boats in the more popular spots. Had a limit of eaters on both Sunday and Monday by 8:30AM.

Thanks again for all the info,

    KT
