Lake Pepin report

Hit the lake hard the past 2 days with good friend Dave Ansell and found some good fishing to go with the beautiful weather. Trolled Long Point area, Lake City bay, and from Hanson’s down to the landing with good results on all. Most of the fish we caught were in 10 to 20 feet and hit fire tiger and blue #5’s. Trolling produced 48 saugers and 1 keeper walleye with many fish in the 14 to 17 inch range to go with a pile of dinks. The big fish trolling was a 20+ sauger Dave caught and released. We also spent some time pitching jigs along the riprap and pulled a couple good walleyes that way. Not many fish (unless you count the dozens of sheaphead) but No complaints from us. Dave’s fish went 26″ and mine was 28 1/2″. Both are still swimming. All and all a real nice time with a good friend on a great stretch of river!

Nice report, sounds like a couple fun days of fishing! Does anyone know what’s up with the bent sauger in the last photo? I was out last week on pool 4 and caught a few that were all hunched over as well.

Hey John thanks for posting the report and thanks for two great days on the water. I was great to be able to get in on the numbers trolling as well as the few big ones pitching plastics. Looking forward to the next trip

Thanks for the report, the wife and I will be hitting Pepin sunday, least till it gets to warm, and hope to do mostly trolling.
    Hope we do as well.

    Good report and great fish.

I’d be curious about the hunchbacks as well. This guy was from last week…

I also wanted to let folks know that there is a lot of debris in the water again for the slight rise we have seen over the past week or so. Most of it is small but there are larger trees and dead-heads coming down river. It also make trolling cranks a bit of challenge is some areas.

We did see a lot of guys rigging with bait and talked to some who had success but we never did drop any rigs so can’t give any first hand reports on that.

Good luck and be safe out there.
