Here is a quick report from today from pool 2 of the Mississippi. The walleye bite was pretty good for Steve, Joel and I. Took a little work getting them dialed in but in the end I would guess we caught around 20 walleyes. Lots of mid sized fish with a few bigger ones mixed in. Trolling and pitching both took fish. A heads up to those that are going to be out in the next few days. Lots of debris floating in the river right now.

Ill get a more in depth report up tomorrow afternoon.

i love how we can go fish the river on opener away from the crowds heading north and usually out fish them!

I ran into you last year while I was talking with Mike W. I am far from a Pool Two expert, I have always valued the generosity of information you, mike and other share so freely. I did get a nice walleye on the closing dam down from the powerline south of the 494 landing today.. with what I hope are more to come..

Thanks for the kind words sir! We were actually talking about you too. I asked Mike what happened to you and he explained the name change. So now that I know who Fred is I won’t be confused anymore (or as confused). I think that the whole reason Pool 2 doesn’t have the squabbles that the St. Croix and the lower pools have is catch and release. People really don’t have to guard their secrets; but they do still have to put in their time and figure out what they are doing. Looking forward to seeing you out there Fred!

P.S. That is a nice wingdam where you got your fish!

Nice fish Marty. That sure is one big 22″ walleye.

I agree Mike…seems like a modest claim! Nice fish.

Marty! I’m hitting the river tomorrow with my father-in-law to see if we can find some crappies.
