got out yesterday evening and hit the wing dams, trolling was the method of choice. a little cold and a little windy but there were a few fish to be had. 2 of us caught about 12 fish in 3.5 hours, nothing huge, biggest being a 19.5″ eye and a 19″ sauger. the rest were on the small side. with the wind blowing down river it was a little tough to see exactly were the wing dams were and when you found them they were hungery we were trolling shad raps and no one color seemed to work better then another.

    Slack:

When you troll wingdams. Do you troll along the tips, going from tip to tip of different wingdams, or do you troll along the faces (front and back) and around the tips (if that makes sense)? Going in a serpentine like path from one dam to the other? How far apart are the ones you are referring to?

    Thanks,

    Eric

we work the face (front) of the wing dams, will troll back and forth many times. targeting 8 ft of water. jump around from wing dam to wing dam. some of the dams are fairly close together.
    a few rules of thum
not all wing dams are created equal
not all bouys mark a wing dam
not all wing dams have bouys (generaly smaller ones)
the first 1 or 2 in a searies seem to be best

Thanks for the info. We were pitching jigs and live bait Tuesday evening with little success. Looks like we need to change tactics.

    And a pm.

    jeff,

pitching can be verry productive on wing dams, i do it sometimes myself. i like trolling because you can cover more water.

i’ll also pull 3 ways with live bait on wing dams.

Still trying to find my way around on pool 3. Did manage to connect with this nice 28″er today on some rocks. There sure seems to be a lot more flow on pol 3 than pool 2. I may need to spend some more time down there.

    nice fish mike
got out on the river last night for a couple of hours, not really fishing just scoping it out. waters up at least a foot, lot of flow and a lot junk.

The water was on the rise on pool 2 all weekend. The Logs and junk coming down river on Saturday was crazy. It cleared up pretty good on Sunday.

hit pool 3 again last night, started out doing some casting in a slack water area south of prescott while i was waiting for a buddy to show up, picked up one 15″ eye. about 6:30 he calls me and i pick him up at the dock in prescott. we went to the wing dams to the south and started trolling. because of time we didn’t venture to far. hit 3 or 4 dams, caught about 20 fish. ALL SMALL saugers. the river has maintain it’s level since it came up last weekend. best part about the night was the weather
    until next time
