With water temp’s close to 60 last weekend I thought for sure I’d find some fish but that didn’t happen, so I was looking forward to this last weekend. Temp’s were right at 60 and it took alot of searching but finally found some nice fish. Friday afternoon I got 7 with the biggest a 27. Saturday afternoon I got 5 with the bigger fish being 25, 26.5 and 27.25, sorry no pics from Saturday ” camera issue’s” Sunday afternoon I got my stepson Ryan out and he landed the only two fish, a 25 and a 26.5. These fish were deep and in pretty fast current, with the north wind and the fast water I couldn’t backtroll, so keeping the front of the boat into the wind made it real hard to stay in the zone. We fished crawlers pretty slow, there is a nice flow right now, hopefully it will stay around for awhile. I had to chop up the pic’s to protect the innocent

Good report sippi! Good job with the pics as well! I did pretty well with crawlers last week also but the last few days have been PADDLETAILS!!!! Bar none for me . Pro Blue with a black head. By tomorrow that will change again

How are you rigging your crawlers??? I did really good last year just running a half on a jig but also had success on 3ways and Mustad SD hooks.

Leave it to you, Joe, to find a natural colored paddletail pattern in late April with water that is still fairly high and dirty. That’s one of the last baits I’d try.

I’ve been out a few times in the last week and I’m catching a few fish but no numbers like you John. Been fishing paddletails mostly but switchin between that and crawlers either jigged or rigged. One day they wanted naturals like Joe said….oyster and pro-blue worked….last night they wanted purple/char. One thing though I have yet to catch a walleye on a wingdam this year. Been catchin fish on shoreline but no fish on wings yet. Question to others if you’re willing to share…are you catchin fish on wingies yet or are you sticking to shoreline obstructions/breaks?

    thanks

Shoreline current seams have been best for me recently. Last Sunday we boated over a dozen eyes in a shoreline area no larger than my bathroom. Jimmy’s River Bugs have been the ticket recently.

My go to wing dams have not been productive for me recently with the high fast water.

    Nice fish sippi!

1/4 oz weenie hair jigs from Jimmy D have been doing pretty good from me also. I really like those river bugs in the lighter sizes (16th-8th oz) and weenie hair in 1/4 and 5/16th oz. There are days where you dont need the weight but they really like the quick drop?? Anyone else ever notice this?? Usually when the water is up and we dont have that this year

The hair jig bite has ended. We could not buy a fish on one this afternoon. Most likely it will start again tomorrow.

Crankbaits and Paddle tails where pretty hot.

In the last week I’ve caught about 6 walleyes throwing cranks at a wingdam. The biggest maybe went 23″. It was right in near shore but on the wingdam. That bite should continue to get better and better as the fish drop back into the main channel. Typically it is mid May before you even start to get them with cranks on the wingies.
